Noob question: Common problems with a 93-95 EX ?
Greetings!
I did a search and found similar threads on a CRX and a CR-V, but not a Civic.
My stepson and I are going to test-drive a 1995 Civic EX with 85K tonight and was wondering what types of common problem to watch for. I know the timing belt will need replaced if it hasn't been, but what other gotchas are common?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Bring a spark plug socket and check the condition of 1 spark plug. Check for any leaks around the tranny, motor and oilpan. Check fluid levels and check for any leaks around fittings. Check for any hack wiring jobs around the main harness in the motor and distributor. Check for torn axle boots. Check for any unusual wear on tires. Check motor oil level and color. Pull oil cap on valve cover and check for any buildup of oil under the valve cover.

Watch out for extra wiring under the hood. That's usually a sign that something has been tampered with or modified. And very good advice to pull a plug or two. That'll tell you so many things about how the engine has been run. If anything has been modified, make sure you can get the stock parts with the deal.
