Re: A noob that needs help
fair price.... b18 either LS or gsr...
a lil extra money... h.. no ever suspects an h always thinks its a b or k...
go all out... then a k..
but in the end u'll see that the k and h are very similar.. both are expensive ...
I run a h22 crx, vtec not working, 15.5-15.8 all day.. supposed to run 13's if tuned properly, or course mine isn't..
my stock 09 k20z3 civic sedan si, best time, 15.8...
it really depends on how much u lookin to spend..
less than 5K, a b18 or b20
more than 5K, H22 of K series
most people foreget besides the motor, tranny and ecu, a good set of motor mounts will cost u.. and depending on fabrication level, other costs like welding as well...
most people do the b series, u looking to b the same as everyone else or be different???

Turbo or swap. You should be able to get a complete GSR swap for well under 3K if you keep looking.
Other than that, put your money into suspension.

Put a little nitrous on it if you get a diferent motor put it on the new one, if you build the d, run more nitrous. You can get a used kit for $300-500 sounds like a fair price to me

Re: A noob that needs help
nos kit sounds good but jus make sure u never run it lean... will cause damage.
other than that an engine swap would be good... ditch the d series.

dang so the D is pretty much garbage then... so it would be best to jus save for a swap rather than jus spend money here and there to upgrade the D???

Re: A noob that needs help
i have a 99 ex....d16y8 and im not much of a d series fan either. if i had the choice it would deff. be k series swapped in a heartbeat. Although i dont have like 6 grand layin around so i will probably go with a b series when it comes time to swap.

Re: A noob that needs help
i would not put any money into a N/A d series if i were you. i would however definitely look into putting some boost to a D series. to the OP you said someone told you not to turbo because of the mileage.....and i agree......i wouldnt turbo any engine without a good solid rebuild first. BUT once you rebuild it.......it should be fine for some boost on stock parts. a good rebuild including:rings, bearings, maybe better pistons, a good hone.........and you should be good to go up to about 250hp(which btw is double what that engine comes with from the factory).
i think that is going to be your best option as far as bang for buck......a boosted D with about 200hp should be a very reliable engine that still gets good mileage and is significantly quicker than stock.

Re: A noob that needs help
Its a VERY reliable engine AND its potential with boost is very competitive AND affordable AND reliable if done with any kind of intelligence.
you have to remember what the entire purpose of the D series was. it was a cheap, economical, reliable engine............and a few models(ZC, Z6, Y8) had some decent performance from the factory. a 92-95 Si is a VERY fun car.........its not fast by normal standards, but theres more to enjoying your car than how fast it goes in a straight line. a Z6 is capable of incredible mileage...........ive seen into the 40s regularly, and even as high as 57. it handles very well, its very balanced, its been extremely reliable(in my case)

A lot, and no where.
Most shops won't do performance mods. The few that do, at least in my area, charge exorbitant prices.
I doubt you're going to find a place that'll install nitrous for you. Some garages might tackle an engine swap, but they'll charge you 1-2K for it, plus the price of the engine.

Re: A noob that needs help
If you want to keep the D series, just boost it. I like the D series, but i'll take my B series boosted over a D series anyday.

Re: A noob that needs help
most people are saying the same thing.
If you are happy with your 1.6 D-series, just turboing it is your #1 best bet for getting more power. anything more and you're getting into big $$. Also, nitrous is intense, but it is totally illegal and you run the risk of blowing your engine.

If nitrous is done right with all of the safety features to not blow your motor up you'll be fine. Run your car a little rich and put a shot on it that your motor can handle

Re: A noob that needs help
okay then. So boost the D in the mean time and when you get the money for a swap go for a B series or GSR(my pick) unless u have substantial stacks in which case u would drop an H or a K AND you would proly have to do must of the worl yourself.. Am i correct?
