Non-Vtec Head but has vtec how is this possible
One of my friends accually one of my mechanics has a b18a1 in his civic and hooked up a msd rpm activator to it. How is this possible if the b18a1 is non vtec. He claims that he gets an extra boost and it is like vtec.

What exactly is it activating that gives him extra power?

Like i said I dont know... His brother has a sohc vtec and has a msd rpm activator. He unhooked his vtec and hooked the msd rpm activator up to the solenoid and it kicks his vtec in whenever he wants with different pills. But my mechanic has a LS with no vtec and has an extra boost at 5400

ya it has to activate something i am guessing nitrous because nothing else can just be majically turned on to give more power, other than a 2 stage boost controller. But i gotta agree with bauley he just has the force of vtech on his side and he is m4d tyt3

Unless you change the cams and cam timing, you will only lose power by changing the vtec actuation point. Your *** and your ego may tell you its more power, but the dyno doesn't lie.
VTEC is mechanical and just having an electronic switch w/out the hard parts obviously does nothing. Key words are "he claims he gets an extra boost". Maybe he's just ******* with you.

His brother has a homemade VTEC controller. Instead of allowing the ECU to initiate the crossover, the MSD switch does it for him, and he can crossover whenever he wants according to which pill he uses. We used to do the same thing in the old days, when swaps first started out, and no one was using factory ECU's, since the wiring hadn't been figured out yet. The power that his brother thinks he's getting is probably imaginary, as changing the crossover w/out fuel or timing adjustments is usually no help at all.
Your "mechanic" might be using a timing retard to help out, but if his motor is non-Vtec, he doesn't have VTEC, period.
