noise coming from rear end of car

I have a 00 Si and for some reason or another there is this annoying rumble that that's intermittent. I checked out the exhaust and the noise wasnt coming from it. The noise happens when i turn on my A/C, or when im decelerating, or even sometimes when im at idle. Any ideas on what could be cause this noise? Could a blown shock cause a noise similar to the description? TIA.

I thought it was a heatshield of some sort too. I have a MTL axle-back, and i pray to god it isnt something loose inside the canister. but i dont think a heatshield would randomly loosen.

i'll bet its your muffler hitting your bumper, or part of your exhaust hitting something. triple check it. kick your exhaust pipe around. also trying pushing it with your hands and see if it contacts anything. it will only do it at certain frequencies and loads. you'd be surprised how much the exhaust moves under load.

cant be your suspension if it happens at idle.
