Default no vtec sound??? wtf

aite well i drive an ek with a obd1 jspec d15b vtec. i fixd all my CELs and everythin with a full tune up. but everyone that test drove my car for vtec says they could feel it and they see the rpm jump at 5.5 and say i have vtec but all of them couldnt hear it. what could be wrong? i have no cat but stock piping w/ stock muffler. but when i was in my homies eg6 his vtec was loud and he has a sohc too.. what could this be???

If it's working properly it shouldn't make a lot of noise. Be happy that your engine is in good running order and stop complaining like a motherfucking ricer.

your homie has a eg6, huh? if you vtec wasn't working it would give you a CEL. but you said you fixed all of that right? you can't hear it because it's a SOHC. sorry! try putting you cat back on it might help with what you're seeking. AIGHT!

Get a short ram air intake... I have y8/z6 and with it on I can hear the change over... but you have to understand that its a like a bseries where it is a very aggressive change of sound!!!

the D15B vtec has a more radical cam profile compared to the D16Z6 or Y8, so the change over to the vtec lobes is going to be less agressive (less of a jump) than the D16Z6.

i think the D15B is a better motor than the Z6 or the Y8, but what i originally said is that since the D15B has a more aggressive cam profile on its non-vtec lobes, when it switches to the vtec lobes, it is not going to be as dramamtic as the Z6 or Y8. The Z6 or Y8 have a less aggresive profiles so when it switches, of course its going to sound different. Make sense?

1. You have SOHC VTEC, it has no effect on your exhaust.

2. Put your cat back on.

3. Get an intake, vtec can be heard on an sohc much better with an intake.

I'm assuming that without your cat your exhaust is louder? If so, it's possible you can't hear vtec because your exhaust is too loud and it's covering the sound up.

i can hear my z6 hit vtec no prob. if you have a loud exhaust you probably cant, but its easy to hear it in a car with a somewhat quiet exhaust.

damn. well u know a stock ek has its cat built in the headers so when i did my swap, i lost the cat because on a 92-95 civic the cat is after the headers. so thats why i have no cat. but it doesnt make the car that much louder.

1. Its "header".

2. My stock ex (not a hatch but still an EK chassis regardless) did not have the cat built in to the header.

3. Just put a cat on regardless.

I can't hear mine "hit VTEC" really (my Z6). Though I can hear the difference when it's in VTEC. Like the wind at 4.3k you can hear "gruffer" at like 5.3k. So you can hear the difference in a SOHC, it's not going to "Jerk" or push you back in your seat or anything of the sort, and you won't see your tach jump..if anything you'll notice it goes up a twait hair faster b/c ur like dead center of the power band...nothing noticable tho unless ur really starin at the tach.

Here, if you wanna show off ur SOHC to ur friends, give it 75% throttle, then at 4.5k, push it the rest of the way, then be like "did ya feel the VTEC kick in??" and pray they dont' know anything about cars or VTEC.
