your knock sensor shouldnt have anything to do with your vtec not working...make sure you double/triple check all your wiring..back to the ecu, if there has been a fire...its also possible you didnt repair your wires good enough

Please don't speak what you don't know. If your knock sensor is broken/ not there VTEC will not engage, unless you are running a chipped ecu, with that sensor disabled. Have you checked your oil level also?

you stated you had a fire????
if you had a fire and some of the wiring melted....some of the copper strands on the inside of the wires might'veeither touched each other or grounded out maybe causing something to fry in your ECU. I'd say pull out your ecu...pull the 4 or 5 screws that hold the outer casing on and take a look inside. Actually if it is fried you should be able to smell something burnt from the ECU before you see anything. I'm not saying this is def. it but, it's a possibility.

i agree. shouldnt try to give advice on stuff you dont know about. and yes the knock sensor not being plugged in or broke will cause the vtec to NOT engage.
