no throttle response, resistance when stepping on gas!!! HELP!!
1994 del sol si sohc vtec. old motor was fine but the woodrif key where you put the crank pulley at snapped because the pulley bolt was loose. bought a rebuilt motor and put in on, test drove it and didn't feel like my first motor. it feels like it's sluggish and no response. around 1-3k it feels like a resistance then when it passes around that rpm it picks up speed quick. need help asap. getting fustrated. i just installed a new clutch. would a clutch resist the car since it has to be break'd in.??

sounds like the timming is off...check the cam timming by looking at the marks on the cam gear...look real close it could be off a tooth and kinda of hard to see...then get a timming light and clip the pick-up on the 1st plug wire...

i checked timing but i didn't use the timing gun. i checked on crank pulley on the white line and it lined up and check to see if the cam gear lines up to the TDC and it did. should i still use a timing gun??? i mean... it idles fine.... it idles a little above 700 rpm and that should be fine right??? it's just when you try to floor it, it's like no response and feels like something holding it back..

assuming this is a used motor...did you change the plugs, rotor cap, and plug wire when you swaped it in...yeah you would need a timming light to check the timming correctly...if it drives fine under normal loads i dont think your off a tooth...but ignition timming could be off...

i changed new spark plugs, wires, the rotor and cap was replaced like 2500 miles ago before the new motor was in. i'll check the timing again.
