Default No start after insane wiring headache

2 Previous threads:

Basically wire tuck gone wrong, fuel pump didn't prime, then fuel pump constantly primed, then engine was flooded with fuel.

Now fuel pump is normal, but the engine will not start. When I attempt to start it, rather than cranking, it just locks up and makes like a binding noise. What could cause this? starter?

Starting attempt:

Is the starter making the binding noise or the alternator? -because the alternator is in the movie posted. Does it crank ever or just click? I would check the alternator if its making that noise but if the car doesnt crank check the starter. You can try jumping the starter solenoid contact straight to the battery positive with keys in the ignition to see if it cranks and starts then.

Is the battery just low on charge?

Battery is fine, hooked up to charger.

New starter, still locking up when I try to start it.

if possible remove your starter from the car and bench test it. see if the starter gears are working properly. If everything works fine id check your grounds next since they play a big role when dealing with the starter.

yeah my Del sol did that before and i checked the battery and it was good but the clutch in the starter went bad and the starter would not crank the motor so i replaced the starter and i still had the same problem so i took the old starter apart and cleaned everything and found a d-series starter clutch and it works with a B series. Then something really good happen the ring gear on my flywheel came off....lol

I doubt it is the starter at this point. Because the stock one went out, and now I tried a brand new one and it didn't work (hopefully it didn't blow too).

Can you crank the engine over by hand ? You said in your other posts that you flooded the engine it is poss that you bent something. Enough fuel will not compress just like water will not

I haven't tried cranking it over by hand, partly because I don't know how.

Get yourself a 17mm deepwell and put it on the crank pulley nut. And proceed to turn your ratchet. It might be easier to crank over if you take out the spark plugs, but you should be able to turn it over by hand either way.

Have someone push you down the road and try to kick start it.

I would turn the ratchet counter-clockwise, correct? Because clockwise will loosen nut? And if I get the crank to move, then the engine should be fine? (as in nothing bent?) If it is stuck and wont turn, then what?

I hate that method, I always try to leave that to a last-ditch effort. :-/

Crank spins pretty easily when done manually. Again, I am left with no clue as to what is wrong...

have you checked the voltage on the battery? take the battery to autozone and have them do a test!

just because you charged the battery doesnt mean its okay. you uhave to do a load test on it to see if it performs how it should!

I have the charger hooked up to the battery while i try to start it...so whether or not the battery is bad, the car is still getting enough power....yeah the push start is something I might try.

Soooo, the car starts. After manually cranking it, I guess it loosened it up enough to where the starter could turn it over. It spewed gasoline out of the exhaust pipe for the first couple of minutes it ran probably because it was still all in the system from the previous flooding.

So, in other words. The absolute only thing that caused this whole mess of details was two wires that were switched at the driver's side shock tower plug. Because of that, I went through all of this troubleshooting, spent all this money, ended up frying my ecu--and therefore flooding my engine with gasoline. So the resulting lesson for me, and hopefully anyone reading this is: if you plan to rewire something, take notes, pictures or whatever you have to do to make sure it is redone correctly. And if you are not the one rewiring/depinning/whatever, take the pictures and notes anyway.

Thanks to those who actually did try to help me diagnose these problems.

With it being that flooded I would really recomend changing your oil now before driving / running it for an extended period of time

Well, it has been changed since the gasoline flood. My only concern is that there is STILL a lot of gas that mixed in with the oil, even though the oil was changed and the gas was mostly taken out.
