No spark - Ughhh!!

Hi all,

History: Very frustrated here https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emsad.gif 94 Civic 1.5 automatic. Car had its head replaced, dude drove it for a month, parked it for 8mths. Now I have it. No alternator but got it running on a battery. Would rev fine in park or neutral but when put in gear it would bog so I parked it for a minute (thought maybe it was timing but would deal with it later), went to move it a few minutes later and didn't have spark.

Current:

Sat for another 2 months and now I'm trying to get spark. Also, fuel pump is not kicking on when I turn the key. Switched out distributor, cap, rotor, wires with another running civic. Only spark I get is one quick one when it is first turned to crank it then no spark at all while cranking.

Changed main relay with running civic one and nothing. Checked all fuses all are good. Have power to distributor (checked with test light).

What else can I check that will cause the no spark and no fuel pump turn on issue? Something in ignition? ECU? Remember, it was fine, except for bogging, before, then bam, no spark?

Guessing it is something stupid easy but please help!

Thanks.........Dave

Be very VERY careful when probing wires with a test light, you can inadvertently short the base of a transistor in the ICM, which will destroy it. If you have no spark at the plug, check for battery voltage at the dizzy connector (if you checked the blk/yel wire for power) If you have power at that wire, check your coil resistance.

If your fuel pump doesn't prime, but the CEL comes on for 2 secs in the ON (II) position, check the fuel pump connector for battery voltage when the key is turned to prime the system. If you have no power at the pump, you have a break somewhere between the pump and the battery (main relay perhaps, or perhaps before the relay.)

I highly advise you to use a multimeter. Even a cheap $20 one will provide you with the information to solve almost any problem on a car, provided you know the specs.

So in a nutshell, start with what doesn't (or know isnt) working. Start with that device, IE fuel pump or spark plug, and work your way back until you find power. Then all you'll have to do is fix it.
