That is what I'm trying to figure out.

Try putting it into reverse using the shifter brackets ontop of the tranny. Could be a problem with the shifter assembly or the routing if the cables.

prelude trannys are known for 5th gear grind....after the gear keeps grinding over and over and changes the shape and can block it from going into 5th gear.....i know it sounds crazy but it happened in my car

The h22 tranny I didn't have reverse and the 5th gear would also grind. Some advice that I can give you is watch where you park, because if you're by yourself and there's decline it would be a real bitch to push your car back.

there is one thing you can do but im not sure if i should recomend it because its not permanent......you can take your tranny off and open up the case and grind the part of 5th gear that is in the way off and 5th and reverse will still work that is what happened with my car for a tempoary fix.....make sure you know what your doing though because you could mess something up

hmm ya i heard of doing so, but a homie of mine told me that once you do that the tranny soon goes out, well it did on him, Im still having the problem so im just going to replace the cable's and route them a bit straighter and hopefully that will solve the problem

try an HCP or Hasports mount kit..maybe the placement of the engine is making the problem..could be wrong tho.

Sounds like you bent the reverse shift fork in your tranny or popped the pin out that holds the fork partially. Reverse and 5th are paired in the h22 tranny so that's why 5th gear grinds too. I had the same thing happen to me when i grinded third gear once. I was locked out of reverse and 5th gear grinded pretty bad. I ended up getting an lsd tranny.

There was a thread about how someone fixed this problem. He said he went in a parking lot with alot of space. Rev the motor up to like 2k-2.5k and played with the rpms while pulling hard on the shifter to get it in reverse. Eventually at a certain rpm the tranny let it in reverse, but it gets stuck in there. He drove around in reverse for awhile and then did the same steps to get it out of reverse. After a few tries he said he got reverse back and it got easier and easier to get it into reverse.

I dunno...I hope this helps. The last thing you can do is open up the tranny and look at the shift fork to see if that pin can be punched back in or if you need to bend it back.

Stupid H series trannies
