No more AC=HP???? Is this true?
Im getting my civic ready for the spectator drags at the local 1/2 mile oval track next weekend and im trying to get a lil more horse power outta the biatch before the specs. Removing the whole AC Unit really adds 10hp to the wheels or is this a boggus rumor?

actually adding power?? i dont believe it is true but not sure.
it is one less belt to create drag on the engine and the entire system weighs about 500 lbs. so you will be lighter for sure but would have to see a dyno of it for me to believe it adds power

It did alot on my car. but my car makes most of its power off of the crank pulley.
I removed ac and ps and felt a huge difference.

if u just take the a/c belt off the motor may not have to work as hard. which im sure will net u nothing. maybe .5 to 1 hp. whereas taking the whole system out is like losing 30-40 lbs. which might net u 2-3 hp gain. it may seem like nothing, but with enough weight reduction it will add up.

Re: (Malakai)
your car isnt going to truly gain any horsepower but whats happining is your freeing it up... your engine might be able to produce lets say 180HP but when you add the PS ~-5HP, the AC ~-5hp, and the alt. ~-2, your accualy running ~168, plus you have to think about the spool up time for the engine to... if it has to spin all those iteams thats taking tourqe away from you too...

I agree. The power steering will free up some though.
