No Dome light via door switch
Hey y'all Hondooo experts.
The might fine '98 Civic HX I bought from the Retiring From Microsoft Chinese guy heading back home to Brazil (don't ask me!) for a fire-sale price has an issue:
The dope (er, dome) light doesn't come on with doors open. I checked for power at the light, and sure enough, there's power to one wire (the light comes on if I flip the switch). Fuse is, of course, good-
There is NO current to the other wire. So, now, the question:
There is an aftermarket Pioneer CD player in the dash, and is it possible that somehow they mucked up the install and caused this? Car wiring and electricity being the mystical thing that it is, it may be possible. WhoTF knows?
Any ideas?
Thank y'all (I don't know WHY I keep typing in Texan...),

you need the factory stereo
it controls keyless and the dome light
edit**
theres some jackass, post-*****, user name yentel or something, that claims he did it all with a relay instead. Yet, he wont disclose how he did it. I call BS until I see proof

Nah- really? Thanks for the reply, but...
Very hard to believe that there are like millions of these things out there with no dome lights just because the stock head unit was swapped-
I'm hoping that someone know which freakin color wire to do what to... anyone
Unfortunate that I'll have to find a freakin installer that knows squat, they'll probably want like, money or something.

That is the problem. Anyone who knows anything about car stereo will tell you that the keyless entry and dome light will not work (dome light should work manually) when you put an aftermarket deck in. Mine is the same way.

Then youre on your own....that is the problem. You think Im just BS'ing?
Keyless entry, in civics 96-98, was controlled by a unit in the facrory radio
(thats why it has a 16pin plug for it)

Re: No Dome light via door switch (pdiggitydogg)
You can get a wiring harness from any stereo shop that will make it so this works. you can disassemble the old stereo down to only the very neccessary peices and then plug the harness into the new stereo and the old stereo parts and then into the main wiring. I did this on my old civic and it worked like a charm. Any stereo shop should have the harness and know what your talking about. If you need any help with it PM me.

Thanks, UtahRockabilly. This is what I was looking for:

And no, <TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by pdiggitydogg »</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">You think Im just BS'ing?</TD></TR></TABLE> I just found it amazing that a manufacturer (Honda) would route dome (and keyless, apparently) power 1] to the radio and 2] that they would have the engineering and common sense to not have their customers inconvenienced by <U>INSISTING</U> that their P.O.S. radiohead will always be there OR ELSE, we play Lucas, Prince Of Darkness dirty mean tricks on you, bwaa-haa-haaaaaa...
It's kinda like: If you put a NAPA cap/rotor in, cause the Honda parts shop was closed and you were guaranteed sex on a date that night but the rotor broke, that the blinkers and brake lights stop working.
Inother words, it's rude, crude and pretentious.
Thanks again, and congrats on the tC UtahRockabilly- you gonna get the "vacuum cleaner" that makes it 200 HP?

I got your 'Instant Message' as well, but as I'm still a newbie, I couldn't reply, so here ya go......
Note: Who makes these thsings 'sticky'? This qualify's, especially after seeing how may other listers don't have interior lights.
