Default No Compression??????

Ok here is the deal, My friend has a 96 Hb with LS/VTEC. Well anyways it was running good and all and yesterday we he went to start it to go to work it started funny..kinda sputtered the fired up. (weird he thought, ohh well I havent drove it in a few days?) Well it ran alright on his way to work still running like it was out of time a tooth or so. But it was running. Well he swapped dizzy's just to see if that would fix the cranking problem. ( it did it from then on, since that morining.) Well the one he tried did not start the car, it just turns over not cranks. Well swapped out for his dizzy and the car still would not crank.???? Checked for spark, yes!, Went ahead and checked for Compression..No comp. all the way across. Has not checked for fuel at this time.(I was talking to him on the phone.)

My question is what could cause there to be no compression?
Broken Crank? I am doubtful of this.
