Get a B motor first.
NOSing a 96+ Civic is bad. They are having alot of rod failures on STOCK motors just like yours.

hey bro. as long as you keep the wheel hp under or around 200hp. you don't have to worry about breaking internals, i don't know why everyone says d series motor suck, they don't, i ran the zex kit on my 95 d16 for a few months, no problems what so ever. all you have to do is make shure that your not running to lean, if you do not ad enouph fuel to the mixture things are going to get f-d up. no matter what you do. all motor, turbo, nos, its all in the tuning. for power and for safty. what i really sugest you do is try to tlak to poeple that run it. or have run it. find out what they did right and what they did wrong, but just make shure you know what your doing before you do anything. and honestly that goes with anything not just nos. so good luck to ya bro. by the way on a 75 shot with i/h/e/slicks i ran a 14.4 in the quarter mile. have fun.

what do u mean by ''running to lean''...and when u say make sure theres enough fuel to the mix...i think this is solved with a fuel/pressure regulator right? btw thanks for the straight up answer.

If you want to run nitrous on your civic all you need to do is get a N.O.S. dry kit or a ZEX kit. I would advise staying with a 50 or 60 shot. These kits will spike your fuel pressure up when you hit your nitrous. This will make sure you dont run lean.
Both kits have a switch to arm the system. When that switch is activated, the nitrous will only fire at wide open throttle (when your foot is to the floor). So when you take your foot off the gas to shift, the nitrous turns off, then reactivates when your foot is back on the gas. But in your case, all you need to do is hit your arming switch and then hit the gas.
I would suggest you get colder spark plugs, and retard your timing 2 degrees. Neither of these are a necessity, but are further safety measures.
Also make sure a capable person is installing your kit. I know of at least 3 people who have blown their motors from improper installation.
Good luck.

I just finished installing a 5115 kit and I don't see how you could possibly imporperly install that kit unless you were a total jackass. Just read the directions 2 times before you start and make sure you have all the right tools. And don't get too greedy with the NO. Good Luck

Two of the three forgot to put nitrous jets in.
The third didnt hook the switch to the throttle body, but instead held it in his hand and used it to activate the nitrous. But he was waiting for his motor to blow so he could do a b16a swap. So he would use it when the car wasnt warmed up, not a full throttle, and for long periods of time.
So I guess the third was improper install and improper use.
