Default Next Mod : HEADER

This is a question for my friend:

He has a 99 ex with 2.5 custom piping and a short ram intake, his niext mod is a header.

What header should he go for? he was telling he was thinking of a 4-2-1 design because he says his engine need torque lol. but what companies make a good header for the d16?

(oh and yes i did search so dont ask)

You can never go wrong with DC Sports. Good quality and reasonable price.

There is many good headers out on the market. I'd personally recommend SMSP or AN-R.

I'd do your research first on dyno's, etc before purchasing.

Get the Comptech header before it's too late. The Comptech header for 92-00 Civic EX has just been discontinued. I've heard good things about it on this site and dyno tests show great cross the board horsepower & torque gains:

http://www.comptechusa.com/ima...t.pdf

The TIG welded version retails at $529, but there is a seller on eBay, www_city-speed_com, is selling them for only $389.97+$35 shipping:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors...92531

I was going to wait till the summer to buy a Comptech header, but since I found out they were recently discontinued, I went ahead and bought if from that eBay seller and asked the seller to ship my headers to Jet Hot for thermal coatings.

Just out of curiousity, why is your friend running 2.5 on a bolt-on D16? My friend with a H22 doesn't even run 2.5 anymore. If your friend wants more torque, wouldn't it also help to reduce the piping down to 2.25?

Not to be argumentative, but those headers will easily cost twice as much as the engine they are bolted to.

Unless the engine is a fully built engine that is currently completely tapped out, I'd save the money and get a good old DC header and use the difference on a good cam and some headwork.

Those headers mentioned are certainly the best of the best, but unless you have some serious work done or plan to (realistically) I would not spend that type of money (over $1,000.00 easily) on a header for a mildly done SOHC.

yeah i think he makes a point about some headers costing more the the engine itself. i think hes just gonna go with DC 4-2-1 headers. I sae them at wwww.modacar.com for like 260 or something.

i have a DC 4-1 on my 97 ex for the time being. I need boost!!!!!

but i did notice that in the upper rpm ranges acceleration really picks up a good amount!! The engine feels like it needs a good cam and a nice program to take advantage of the 4-1 though

If u don't plan on doing anything else other than bolt ons just get good 4-2-1, good power on the street

You don't want back pressure. (well you do at specific moments but it is way too complicated for any normal exhaust system to accomplish.)

rather than me explain it read this: http://www.automotiveforums.co...13199

if your friend only has minor bolt-ons, i would just go with the DC.. a header at this point won't give him much hp..

I completely agree, but he's looking for a D-series header. An-R doesn't even make one for them. As much as I hate to say it, you're probably going to have to go with the DC.

Check ebay. I Just got a Brand new DC 4-2-1 Ceramic header for $137.

Sometimes you can find a good auction with no activity.

I think your friend will be more than statisfied with a dc 4-2-1 header. Its good for low end and for the price, its not a bad purchase at all. I personally have it and I love it.

Bisimoto is 529 and has been dyno'd to produce 8-10 HP to the wheels...

DC sports is 325 and and produces what...like 2-4 HP to the wheels?

I'd go with bisi if I was going to buy a header, but i'm a budget racer myself and I consider the d16z6 manifold an upgrade

If he wants tq then leave the stock header and cat he already has almost defeated the purpose with 2.5 in exhaust. IF he doesnt want any tq get a cheap *** obx header. for 75$ off ebay
