Newly installed ecu....having some problems...please help
I just bought a chipped p28 ecu for my b16a2 94 civic ex. I got the ECU and 3 chips. This is what happens:
... the engine comes on and idles fine... at first. When the vtec kicks in around 5200 it pulls strong...but when it reaches 65-7000 the vtec disengages and the check engine light comes on. I believe that it throws the engine into to safe mode. The vtec will not work again until I turn the car off and then let it sit for a minute, turn it on, and then the check engine light goes off again. It will do the same thing each time I try to take it up (after restarting). When the check engine light is on and I let it sit at idle, it sits at about 1200 and flucuates from 1200-1400 over and over. I tried all 3 chips and they do almost the same thing.
I am going to pull the cell codes tomorrow morning to see what the computer says, but I wanted to see if you guys had any ideas on what might be causing this problem. The car is a 94 civic ex w/ b16a2 (99 civic sir), vtec kicked in all the time on my stock p28, but the check engine light was always on, with the new ecu it only comes on when that thing happens.
Let me know what you think.....

check the code first, this can save us from guessing and possibly point to the source of the problem

I got a code 21:
VTEC Solenoid Valve
defective circuit or unplugged / defective solenoid valve
* not a valid code if car does not have a VTEC engine
** not with V-6 engine
I know its defenetly not unpluged.... is it just dead?... this is the vtec solidiod off of a d16z6 i had to use during the swap. The soli. has 167K+ on it so is it possible that its just bad cause of it being old.

What does your oil level look like?
Edit: Oh, you're using a SOHC VTEC solenoid? Doesn't it fit funny on the head? I think you're supposed to use B-series part on that one.
