Default Newbie Question...

You guys most love these simple stuff... Anyway, does it make sense to bore out an H22 (Im thinking Type-S) from lets say 2.2 to a little higher? Will performance increase, or will it hurt me in the long run?

Also, if im right the compression for the Type-S is around 11:1. Will it, again, improve performance or degrade it, if its incresed to a higher number (im thinking 12:1 but would be curious about 13:1 )

EDIT: Also one more thing; if you had the money would you still go with the Type-S or stay with the 93-35 (I think)?

Im planning on dropping it in a 5 gen hatch...

Thanks

type s as in rsx type s?
Dont even think about it in a 5g civic, As far as I know it has only been done in a 2k civic and They really had to shoehorn that fuggin beast in a all kinds of wiring nightmares

No.

He specifically said Prelude Type S - it's a JDM higher model Prelude not offered here in the U.S.

As far as the original questions go:

Boring the motor out to have larger than 2.2L displacement isn't a bad idea, but you'd better make sure that the machine shop knows what they're doing and make sure they have the pistons and rings so they know exactly how much to bore.

If you go to big then you're screwed if you ever have a problem with the bottom end and need it bored again to make the cylinders round.

Look for member 2point6 - he has a 2.6L Prelude motor in an Accord. Ask him how he did it since he knows probably more about it than anyone else.

As far as compression goes:

12.5:1 is about the most I've seen on daily driven 93 octane gassed motors in Hondas.

Boring and upping the CR - you must be going all-motor, right?

The K20 swap has also been done into a 6th gen, so i would think the 5th gen would'nt be too farfetched...

As far as all motor goes, Im not sure if I will be able to hit lower than mid 11s with it (im probably wrong?). My goal is really tens (I'm happy with 10.99 ) but I guess im going to have to lower my expectations. I was hoping that with FI it would be possible, (but then can it be bored/increased CR? )

I F*cking hate being a newb

When your going to change everything out in the motor, why not just get the cheapest block you can find and build it up.

boring it out and increasing the compression rate means changing everything out in the motor? (I was planning on getting the H22 since it has good potential to be a good drag engine due to its great amount of torque) then again, what do I know?
