Newbie Here.....How to replace socket/connector on the block under intake manifold ?
Hello Fello Honda Enthusiasts,
2000 Civic Ex 4dr. 1.6L D16Y8
So Im new to this particular forum so I won't bore you all with a long post.
Recently, I just got into DIY car projects just for experimentation and
for the purposes of saving money back in June. I will quickly list all repairs
and maintenance since then below....
O2 sensor
Dizzy oring
trans flush
timing belt & water pump
cam and crank seals
vtec solenoid gaskets
power steering flush (turkey baster method )
alternator & power steering belts
IACV (Idle Air Control Valve)
oil change
So up until this point I've done quite a bit on my own. My most recent
project was changing pcv valve, grommet and tube. To make a long story short, I ended having to remove the entire intake manifold to get to the little breather box the pcv valve sits in (breather box sits right under manifold). In the process, I managed to break part of the electric connector socket that looks like it fits onto the back of the block, right below the intake manifold . I know for some of you it would be hard to picture what Im referring to without pictures (I will included pictures). I did this about 2 days
ago, but I haven't had any check engine lights or anything like that. I temporarily used some gorilla glue and attempted to glue it back together, but I know that won't hold forever. My is question is how would I go about repairs this connector. Take it to dealership? or other mechanic? Can i repair this myself? Please feel free to make suggestions or tips on how I can repair this.
In this picture, you can see the green socket that
that is on the back of the block. That is the part
I broke off.
In this picture, you can see the socket from a different angle and you can see the green part is no longer attached.
Here is the broken off part here. If you look closely, you can see the jagged edges that .
Another picture of broken part
And another.
and another.

Re: Newbie Here.....How to replace connector under intake manifold?
The part you snapped off is the connector bit of the sensor/sender....get a new sensor/sender from honda, wind the old one out, and wind the new one in as outlined in the factory service manual, plug your harness back into it and you'll be all set. you might just decide to change your oil at the same time as it'll also make accessing that area much easier...from the bottom.
EDIT: it looks to me to be the knock sensor, anyone with more familiarity with the d16y8 please chime in...if it IS indeed the knock sensor (as I see the oil pressure switch with its nasty black boot to the lower right) then here is a link to majestic honda, part 12 in the diagram (oe part 30530-P2M-A01). again, make sure that it IS what I think it is before buying...either way, it'll be an easy job.

Re: Newbie Here.....How to replace connector under intake manifold?
Thanks guys!! I really appreciate the help with this. But I do
have one more question....
Can the broken knock sensor cause hesitation and "jumping/bucking"
to happen?? I was having these issues before I replaced my pcv
tube and it seemed fined then the issues came back. I had a p0505 CEL
and I replaced the IACV, but the light came back on. I just wondering should
I replace the knock sensor or maybe spend that money trying to find a
vacuum leak. Any other thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks again

Make sure you have reconnected all hoses after taking off the im.
Also, bled the coolant properly since you had to loose coolant from the removal.
New intake manifold gasket i assume?
Spraying some brake cleaner on the intake is a great way to find vacuum leaks

P0505 is typically associated with an idle problem. Describe it in detail.
But first replace the knock sensor.

Re: Newbie Here.....How to replace connector under intake manifold?
So here's the update........
I have not yet replaced my knock sensor which I am going to do soon.
The issue is I replaced my IACV thinking that was the issue to my surging idle and hesitation issues but then I heard air seeping from my pcv tube so I went ahead and replaced that along with the pcv valve and grommet. But now I'm still having the same issues as before and I'm not sure if they are related to the broken knock sensor or not. Its like when I driving and I just slightly release my foot off the throttle, I feel a huge jerk then when I re-apply throttle I feel a jerk of acceleration. And there's also random jerking and hesitation. When my car is at full operating temperature and I put it in park, I can hear the idle bouncing up and down. I have been to Autozone twice the past two days to have my CEL checked and it keeps coming up as p0505. Would a broken knock sensor throw that code?? I think it may just be a vacuum leak but I'm afraid to use the "spray break cleaner method" to find it in fear I may cause a fire or further erode my already brittle hoses. I really don't want to waste money guessing and fixing what I think is the issues. I think I'm going to go ahead and humble myself and make that dreaded trip to........the Honda dealership.

Re: Newbie Here.....How to replace connector under intake manifold?
Well...............I feel really inept now
So I figured out my problem and boy do I feel stupid. So after I replaced
my pcv tube and valve, I had to reinstall the intake manifold. And as
well all know there a several vacuum hoses that have to be reconnected
or you will have problems. So as 92eHatch stated, make sure you attach
ALL hoses back after reinstalling the manifold. I thought I did but I re-checked
my work and sure enough, I forgot to plug the tiny hose that goes near the bottom of the manifold to the vacuum canister near the firewall. WOW!!
So to everyone who needs to remove the manifold, make sure you reconnect
ALL hoses!! Again I really appreciate all the help from everyone who chimed in!! Thanks a million
