the drive shaft connects the transmission to the rear differential at the rear axle on rear wheel drive/ front engine cars (most trucks, mustangs, etc. )

not necessarily. an NSX is rear-wheel-drive, but does it have a driveshaft?

Not to be a picky-***, but rear engine is what a porche is-- the engine sits BEHIND the rear axle line. NSX is mid engine, where the motor sits in front of the rear axle, but behind the driver.
