new york sate inspection problem
ok the car went for inspection and failed...its a 98 hatch with a b16 block and gsr head with an obd2 - obd1 conversion harness on it. they said the ny computer would not connect to my ecu...wtf.
im wondering if when you type the vin number in the ny state computer thinks its reading obd2, and thee obd1 ecu is messing it up. i dont know, i need help from anyone who has had any probnlems with this new inspection crap, bc my inspecion expired last week.......please help if you can

Re: new york sate inspection problem (bleedblue94)
In NY, all new computer/smog inspections are on cars that SHOULD have OBD2 ecu's, just the fact that you have an OBD1 ecu in the car will not void you from the inspection, you must have an OBD2 ecu in the car if it's supposed to be there... hense all 96-00 civic's must past smog tests to pass inspections with the new NY law.... much like CA laws.
Part of the reason I took my turbo kit off my 99 si. Good luck.
OBD0-1 cars are not subject to the same laws as the newer models are. I haven't looked into it much but I'm pretty sure you have to change your **** over to OBD2 to pass.

so if i just put say a n obd2 ex ecu on my car for the inspection, then it should work?

Re: new york sate inspection problem (bleedblue94)
dont worry dude, im screwed too- obd2a hx with a chipped obd1 ecu on a ls motor swap and turbo. my car will never pass again.
get an obd2 ecu and make sure it has no codes in the memory, because the machine will find them

You can go to an advance auto type place and they will clear the codes off of an OBDII ecu for free.... you need an OBDII ecu to pass.

Re: new york sate inspection problem (92 Hatchie)
can i have any obd2 ecu???
my car is an hx with an ls swap converted to obd1. can i just use an obd2 ls ecu and pass??
this goes for any car, like can a dx with a b16 swap run a b16 obd2 ecu and be okay, even though its not the right ecu for the car?

Technically yes. You just have to be CEL free and pass certian "tests" the computer throws at the car through the OBDII port.

not really, if they require you to plug into the ECU the ECU keeps track of Drive cycles, basicaly the times you turned on and off the ignition. Now if the number was low then the ECU cannot do the block learn so no matter what the ECU will still be in open loop mode which can prevent you from passing.

its all different....as of july ny state hooks you ecu into a computer in albany and they check your ecu and determine if youll pass you
