NEW to site had a question about the tps sensor?
Howsit, names marc.
i know thiers threads on tps but i have run into an issue with a new one i just installed. So here's my question i have a 96 hatch with a 94-98 gsr motor obd1 chipped p28 ecu, the motor is bone stock i been having an issue with the new tps sensor i just put on and thought i might get some advice.
now the calibration idk is all funny kine i used a multimeter to check voltage, stay wierd though, im getting a 9.5 closed throttle and a 0.5 fully open. Am i doing something wrong? reading it backwards? ect. i read around an i know it should be 0.5 at full closed and 4.5 fully open. idk what else to do, please if anybody can help it would be greatly appreciated .
thanks for your time, marc

First off, double check your TPS installation.
You have not said how you are doing the voltage measurements. Provide a lot of details.

Re: NEW to site had a question about the tps sensor?
So I removed the tb an cleaned it due to a very sticky throttle response an the fact that the torque screws on the sensor were stripped. Put the new sensor on the same way the old one was. Then for testing I probed the red and yellow/green wires to test voltage. An thats how I got that reading. Multimeter red hooked to outside Y/G wire, black hooked to red wire for testing.

Re: NEW to site had a question about the tps sensor?
okay so i double checked myself before i wrecked myself had multimeter on the wrong damn setting and hooking it up wrong, dee deedee! Anyway fixed those problems, redid the calibration test but still to no avail the car runs at 2500rpm in idle and then drops from that to 1000rpm and right back up.... im stuck guys, i got the right reading w/the multimeter for closed throttle 0.5 but my fully open could only get to 4.59-4.61 i had changed the MAP and IAT sensors a week ago an was doing fine till this...ugh am i doing something wrong still...

Your TPS voltages are now fine. Did you reset the ECU after the TPS calibration?
Any CEL codes?
If you use your finger to cover the port inside the throttle body leading the IACV or FITV, does the idle fluctuation stop?

Re: NEW to site had a question about the tps sensor?
cancel that last comment im retarded... so i covered the IACV port an my idle dropped, no fluctuation. its only me so i cant exactly see where the idles at now but it seem normal. so does this mean my IACV is bad, or needs cleaning?

Re: NEW to site had a question about the tps sensor?
So cleaned iacv, bleed cooling, checked tps still at .5-.49 closed and 4.61 fot. Checked ect. Looked good. But to no avail idle is still up at 2k rpm when I plug the iacv hole I tried to see were the idle drops to and its at 1500 rpm. So does this mean its not my iacv. Idk already, I hope not the throttle...

is it surging when idling? maybe try turning in your idle adjustment screw. sounds like u have a vacuum leak. check all your vacuum hoses. the motor should die if you plug the iacv port inside the t/b.

What car and engine? If your idle is still at 1500 with the IACV hole covered, then you have another problem. What happens when you cover the hole to the FITV? If that's fine, check for vacuum and intake air leaks.

Unfortunatetly I'm now atuck at work an will be unable to work on this till tomorrow morning when I get off. I did check the fitv an same idol drop. I will check around for vacuum leaks when I get off wrk an let you guys know...thnks again

Re: NEW to site had a question about the tps sensor?
problem solved. cleaned fitv fixed vacuum leak, was one of the lines coming from the IAB control solenoid valve. gotta change that out, the tab for the line snapped off so i glued it on temporary. now it has a little "putt putt" for some reason, was probably there for awhile just never noticed it cause the idle was to high... so i will try figure that out lol... thank you plenty bradda for all the help, like i said before was greatly appreciated much mahalos...

Re: NEW to site had a question about the tps sensor?
Alright I have a problem similar to what you were having. My car is obd1 however but it's doing some weird stuff. I swapped out the manifold and tb and I have a CEL for TPS, I have tried every method I've heard of or read about to calibrate it but nothing is working. I can't get anything to read properly. And randomly my CEL comes on for IACV, then it'll go away if I reset ECU or something. The car idles steady at about 2500rpm and will NOT go down to save my life. When I start it up fresh cold it idles at about 1600 and slowly but steadily climbs right up to 2500 and stays there. This is annoying, any ideas?
