new radiator problem
hey guys me and my bro just swapped out his radiator in his 95 civic after it cracked real bad so we put it in and hooked up all the hoses and everything and there was already enough coolant in the resevoir thingy. is there anything else i should do? ive never done this before and im not sure if you have to put anything in the radiator itself. any help or advise will be appreciated. thank you

you should put coolant in the radiator https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

Re: (EJcoupe)
did you burp the system?

Re: new radiator problem (94gsr_vtc)
dont put anything in the resevoir thing because thats your over flow...you need to fill the radiator itself and then run the car with the cap off and let it run until the cooling fan turns on or until theres no more bubbles comming out...good luck!

nah, all you gotta do to let the air out is squeeze the top radiator hose, bubbles come out, and add coolant and repeat as necessary until no more bubbles come out https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif

never thought of doing this...but hope it will work https://honda-tech.com/forums/images/smilies/emthup.gif |
ok so take the cap off and fill the entire radaitor with half coolent, half water, leave the cap off, run the car, for how long? and then dont touch the resevoir thing. is this correct?
|
ohh and fill it all the way to the top? thanks

I use the Pre-Mixed Prestone and haven't had any problems since (10,000 miles ago). Dump all coolant into the radiator, fill resevoir, leave the cap off and turn the car on. Watch all bubbles escape, once they do, put the cap back on.
Also, when I did replace my coolant, I also replaced my thermostat. OEM Honda Thermostat. Every other thermostat tested stuck open or didn't open until a higher temperature. |
Re: (Dimi)
do you know how much i should add cause it seems like a lot because it keeps falling through the cracks

Re: (94gsr_vtc)
the manual says i need 1 gallon into the radiator correct? sorry it just seems like so much
|
1 gallon isn't a lot at all. My Jeep Grand Cherokee needs 3 gallons.
