Default New Member With Quesitons about a 93 Del sol.

im currently thinking about buying a 93 del sol S trim.5 speed w/ no power steering and a targa top. from the factory. i figure since the car is so light it wont be that bad. So i just have a few questions bout em if you could answer.
1. How hard would be to convert to an autocrosser?(are thier any on the forum?)
2. What this car fun from the factory (yes i know its gonna be kindof high.)
3. is there any proformance options for this car?
4. just outta curiousty whats the biggest tire/Rims i could run? (Currently 13" steelies heh)
5. the car has 120k+ miles on it how much do you think its gonna go for?
thanks
sean

gutting the car wont take alot off the car.... its only a two seater.... its heavy compared to a hatch becouse the frame is reinforced for the targa top.... if it wasnt the windshield would fall on your face.... and then theres that motor that makes the rear window go up and down..... and the giant trunk lid...... its a reall heavy car.... and as for that 1.5 non vtec sohc engine..... that has no power... i think it has 110 or something like that..... if you have alot of time and money.... get the car and hook it up..... ive been autocrossing.... im no fully into it i just wanted to know how my car performs..... but i waited until my entire suspension was built....... that was $5,000 later, on just suspension...... and 4 motorswaps later too......

I have a 93 si and I like it. I have done a bunch of autocrosses with it and some track days as well.

For your car, I'd #1 get a swap at least d16z6 sohc vtec. found mine for $400 after I blew it up at VIR. easy swap get trans too.

Any susp that will fit the 92-95 civic and the 94+ integra, will fit the sol. Possibilities are endless there.

As far as weight is concerned, you will never acheive the featherweight of a cx hatch or something but the sol is not the stuffed pig that some make it out to be.

The sol is not a "race car" it is not easy to make it one. cages are nearly impossible to do without giving up all your int space....

I suggest just make the car into something you will enjoy on nice warm days having fun with it. it can be a fast car, I guess just as with anything car related, how fast you want to go is always reflective of how big you bank account is....

If you want specifics on the sol pm me and i will answer as much as i can....
-hope that helps.

1. Not hard at all to convert to an auotcrosser. Just upgrade the suspension system and swap the motor. I don't think ur going to get far on a 1.5

2. Yea its pretty fun. Pretty good options even for the S model

3. Yes there are a lot of performance parts...after fixing up your car you'll notice that a lot of del sol and civic parts are interchangeable

4. Probably 18s, if your car is barely dropped or you'll rub

5. ummm...probably around $4000 and not more then $5500. i bought mines with 123k miles for only $2000

i drive a del sol si also.. it is not that heavy.. if im not mistaken the coupe is heavier.. (but noone talks **** on them like the do the sol's) anways. anything you can do to another honda you can do with the sol.. im building a roll cage in mine... when i held some of the unwelded bars in there it doesnt use that much space. (just make sure you pad it cuz it is close to the dome piece.. as far as making it fast is concerned you can make it just as fast as most of these hatchbacks on here.. hell im goin for faster..
