Default new to me 1994 civic ex questions

I really don't know much about hondas. I had one back in the 80's that ran pretty good while I was in high school. I also had one of those really tiny ones with a shifter on the dash that didn't last but a couple of months and blew up.

I just picked up a 1994 civic ex 5 spd coupe for $2200 to save on gas. It looks pretty good except the paint. I found through the FAQ it is a EJI chasis and has a D16Z6 engine and was made USDM. It doesn't have A/C which seemed wierd for an ex.

What I was interested in learning was what size tires came on it stock, what the weight is, what viscosity oil I'm supposed to use, what is the interval for timing belt replacement, etc. Is there a single source I can go to for this info. The car didn't come with an owners manual. Thanks.

(edited because I screwed up the year, it's a 1994 and a D16Z6 engine USDM)

The interval for timing belts is around 100k miles or 7 years. Stock tire size kinda depends on what options the car came with...but it should be either 185/70/14 or 185/65/14 or 195/60/14. You can find out for sure by searching on tirerack.com or discounttire.com or any other tire site that allows you to look up by vehicle.

The curb weight can be found on www.edmunds.com. I would assume around 2300lb. You can also take the weight on the door jamb and subtract all the max front and rear weights from that number (also on the door jamb).

Use 5W-30.

You can find all the info by either buying a used owners manual on eBay or buying a haynes or helms manual.

The acura wheels on it have 195/50/15 (22.7")nitto tires on them. Shorter than the 185/70/14 (24.2"), the 185/65/14 (23.5), and the 195/60/14 (23.2") you mentioned.

I saw this good thread about tires.

2555 lbs is what the weight on the tag reads (front and rear combined)

Thanks for the oil and timing belt help.

Needs paint( I think all the old ones do), but the interior is near perfect except for the seat fade on the rear seats.

Actually, in the States, a D series VTEC is about as common as bread and milk. It is a D16Z6 that was in 92-95 U.S. EXes. Compression ratio is somewhere around 9.2:1 and the HP is 125. Easily availble information.

OP: A good tire size would be around 205/50/15. That corresponds almost exactly to the 92-95 OEM tire sizes.

Just to clarify, civic coupes did not exist unitl the 1993 Model Year. You must mean a manufacturing date of 1992. Your documentation and title should not list 1992 as the model year. Also, just an FYI but Civic Coupes were not manufactured in Japan, but rather in Honda's plant in Ohio. I believe all of the coupes were assembled here, even those that were sold in other countries. Don't worry about the faded black paint. Faded roof, trunk, and hood are very common now with these cars. More Importantly, I think, is rust. And you seem to have gotten a rust-free body! Congrats on a great pickup!

I made several mistakes it is a 1994. I looked at the chasis codes here and it said EJ1 was JDM. But I was looking under the 6 gen not 5 gen. It shows my engine as a D16Z6 as as USDM.

Stupid question that I'm sure has been covered. I know my '94 EX has the 1.6L VTEC in it. Are they all the same or are there different 1.6L VTECS that came in this?

The only 1.6L VTEC available in the U.S. from the factory until 95 was the D16Z6. The B16A came out in 95 in Del Sols.

Your chassis code will be in your VIN. Letters 4 and 5 and number 6.

Your VIN also tells you the country of origin. 1 means U.S. J means Japan. 2 means Canada.

Not ALL 94 coupes were built in ohio... Ours was built in Canada (2HXX for our VIN, plus it says Honda of Canada or something like that..)

Yes. Usually, the 92-95 sedans have a J vin.

Quick question on the wheels on my car. I was told they were off an acura. They are
15x6 wheels the center caps read Acura. I checked the acura wheel page from the faq and it shows only one 4x100 wheel and that is for a 14" wheel. Are the wheels on my car knock offs or something not on the list or do I have a 4x114 bolt pattern? (faq says I have 4x100) Thanks.

I found a link in the faq. It doesn't list 15" for acura but another site did list one that matches. integra acura gsr Fat phat five fives. Thanks for whoever put together the faq.
