I'm getting a car, i have about 1500-2000 to spend initially.. i cant go much longer without a car because i need to get to a job... i was looking at a 92 civic, or 94 civic.. i plan on upgrading it with performance parts and im going to have a 500~watt stereo in it (500 for the sub, 50x4rms for speakers) i was wondering what i should look for when deciding which car to get.... any suggestions?? :D thanks in advance,

Well, if you're looking for a 92+ you're in the wrong forum. You should be in the EG+ forum. But to answer your question, the main thing I look for when I buy a car is how solid the bodywork is. Try to get a car with as little rust as possible, and bring a magnet along with you to check for hidden caches of bondo. Are you doing a swap? If not, then check the condition of the oil, coolant, ask about service records, and take a look at the brake fluid. If any of these things don't check out be sure to ask why. HTH.

Welcome cody.

I don't know if your topic was moved here, but now it's in my part of H-T - the EG+Civic /Del Sol forum.

I think you're in a tough position because unfortunately, $1,500-$,2000 isn't a whole lot to buy a really nice car off the bat.

If I were you the choices would be pretty limited to these:

1988-1991 Honda Civic or CR-X Si
1992-1993 Honda Civic DX hatchback

Why these two cars?

Well since you're obviously on a tight budget and won't be swapping engines any time real soon either one of these cars would be pretty quick out of the box. The 1988-1991 Civic/CR-X Si is bad-*** because it has a power moonroof, sporty as hell seats, sportier suspension, and most importantly, a 108hp engine and closer-geared tranny.

If you later decide to get more performance out of your 1988-1991 Si, then swaps are pretty easy and pretty cheap.

If you like the styling of the 1992-1995 Civic and want a lightweight good performer, get a DX hatch only. The CX and VX are lighter and if you were swapping immediately I'd suggest those, but reality says that you'll be driving this car near-stock for a while.

The DX is light and has 102hp to boot. It makes for probably the best platform to build upon down the road in terms of swaps as in engines, seats, brakes, suspension, etc. because anything and everything Integra bolts right up.

Which car will you probably find easier and cheaper?

The 1992 DX will probably be chepaer just because for some reason people with Si versions of Hondas ask shitloads for them just because. You might find a miled up, pile of **** 1989 Si hatchback for cheap but what you want is reliable transportation.

One last suggestion:

If you know anyone or you don't mind trying to do work on your own car you might look for any of these cars I mentioned with a blown engine, but great body and interior.

Use this MB for help and don't let any ******** bother you. Just please read the rules at the topics list here and you'll be fine.

If you have any "what car would be faster" questions then please e-mail them to me. I'll go ahead and tell you a race betwen a 1988-1991 Si and a 1992 DX would be a tough call - honestly.

Last thing before anyone tries to say anything:

There was never a 1988 Civic Si hatchback. There was a 1988 CR-X Si, but the first year of the Civic hatchback from 1988-1991 was 1989.
