new knock sensor location, will it be a problem?
this is a 99 civic ex, but previous owner changed out the block with a d16z6 with a d16y8 head. I did not want to remove the intake manifold, as it is a pain in the ***, so this is only location that I can find that i can get to with a drill and tap. let me know if you guys think it will be okay. thanks

The most ideal location for the most accurate sensing is between cylinders 2 and 3, near the top of the block, usually within 1 to 2 inches of the top of the deck surface.
Severe (damage capable) knock will normally start at the top of the stroke, so the closer you can get it to where the knock is, the better sensing it will have. Where you have it now is too low to be as effective as it could be.
It will work, but the signals it picks up may not be strong enough to indicate the severity of the knock, or it will under rate the severity of the knock.

slowcivic2k summed it up. there was a car around here who had it relocated and it was between cylinders two and three and was lower than original postion. it still worked but did not detect knock as well. but it did work

this is a bone stock civic, so i don't really care for the accuracy of the reading, as long as it does not give a CEL. I guess i'll give it a shot and see how it goes. At worst, i have to take off the intake manifold, but it is a pain to take out while in the car.

signal wise it may work, but the first time you run the car and heat up that header, it will melt the plug and wire. Especially how it's run right now.
It may last a little while if you can reroute the wire and trim down the plug to get it away from the header more. But it's not going to last for ever.

On this picture, it is actually pretty far from the manifold. O well, im going to try it out and see what happens. The knock sensor should be able to handle the heat right, since the block gets pretty hot throughout when its operating.
