New JDM b16a swap in my 95 eg....vtec wont fire...help??
I hope someone can give me a hint to whats the problem.
Just installed a jdm b16a and vtec wont fire. Yes it has a p30 and good oil pressure. I put a 12v lamp and connected it to my vtec green wire and the light doesnt come on when vtec shoud fire, so the ecu must not be sending the signal. Tach works but acted kinda funny when i 1st started the motor but seems to work fine now. The check engine light is on but that could be due to the swap and or changing the cluster out from the cx to an ex. maybe somthing to do with that??...
what else can i look for and try?
Let me know! Thanks guys!!

My car was doing the same thing when it was swapped from DX to a D16Z6... I ran new wires from my new chipped ecu and it worked fine, Might just be your harness

Re: (Jake92eg)
if you dony have the knock sensor hooked up v tech wont kick in. the ex harness doesnt have one so just wire the knock sensor straight into the ecu. I did that and kicks just fine!

Keep your p30. Btw I have a jdm b16 and I did NOT hook up a knock sensor yet and it's been 3 months. Of course I'm throwing a code for the knock sensor but my vtec works FINE. It crosses over fine and is loud. You need to check your codes before anybody can help you though. It's hard for anyone to tell you what the problem could be when you have codes that nobody knows.

Hey guys, i went and pulled the codes. Here's what i came up with.
3, manifold absolute pressure(map sensor)
14, electronic air control(Eacv)
21, spool solenoid valve
22, valve timing oil pressure
Thoes were the codes i got. Anyone know?...

found the knock sensor broke off and not connected.....some people says thats it and some people say they can run without a knock sensor and vtec hits...im gonna replace it and see if that cures the problem.
if you have anymore ideas let me know!! thanks guys!

Re: (hondaman1320)
Do you have a Vtech oil pressure switch? What wiring harness are you using. I know the JDM motors didnt come with them and if your using a USMD ecu it will not work. Just my $.02. I had vtec problems with my JDM GSR swap.

what type of ecu are you using? a knock code on my p30 will disable my vtec.
my friends vtec works fine with no knock (chipped p28). weird?

vtec oil pressure sensor?
you mean vtec oil pressure switch?
jdm and usdm motors are the same, there is nothing missing.

Correct! Thanks?
JDM and USDM motors are the same? I don't think ALL of them are the same. Maybe he's missing his. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2080100
This is a photo of mine missing.
I just know that if it is missing you need to connect two wires in the ECU for Vtec to engage. Not saying this is his problem but he should check it out to see if he has something there to be certain.
Heres a link to the ECU wiring to help you get around this missing switch for those who don't have it. https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=2078342

K i put in a new knock sensor and still wont fire. Map sensor looks to be connected. iv cleaned out my vtec sloenoid, no build up. Yes, it has a vtec oil presser switch and i was told it was a ex harness, looks to be hooked up. there is a four wire o2 and its hooked up....could it be my jdm p30 ecu?...
