I have a 98 Civic EX, does the transmission have viscous coupling? I had a Nissan Sentra SER that acted like this car - in that every once in a while on wet or loose surfaces I get a bit of wheel hop....especially when turning. I just want to make certain I don't have some other drive issue.

The viscous coupling is often found in all-wheel-drive vehicles. It is commonly used to link the back wheels to the front wheels so that when one set of wheels starts to slip, torque will be transferred to the other set.

The only civic that would have something similar is 88-91 civic wagon all wheel drive. I would say ur driving techniques!

One of the ways to reduce wheel hop is to install a aftermarket front cross member the the one "Jim Fab" sells.

Wheel hop is a suspension issue, because all an axle does is turn, if it bits and jumps that the suspension not keeping the tire planted on the ground.

There is something similar to a viscous coupling in almost all automatics, called a fluid coupling, make sure you don't get those two confused. The fluid coupling is a torque converter.

If u are talking about a LSD stock civic's do not have it. Maybe Sentra SeR's do I'm not sure.

wheel hop can also be associated with a bad clutch/screwing bearings. I have a clutch going out along with a bad pilot/main bearing and in the moring i get some wheel hop when exiting my driveway.

Do you have any trans problems?
