well, since you are going high boost, you'll most likely be sleeving the block, so any b18 block is good, I would do a dohc vtec turbo set up though, but non vtec turbo setups are nice too.

if money is no problem, then k20 is your friend.
from what i've seen boost is their foreplay, it'll make you spoooooge in no-time.

^true story. If your new you need to start out small. A honda block is capable of 500 hp without sleeving, this is more than enough for any street car. You dont have to get a japanese motor, we have alot to choose from stateside including the b18a. A vtec motor is better but its never cheaper and either one will make power. Always remember jdm=rice.

how is jdm rice?
it's the shitty body kits/z3 fenders(**** like that) and all the unnecessary crap that people put on their damn cars.

Exactly, it's just the type/extent of rice.

Rice is what pple make of it - some people think all imports are rice, others think anything with a loud exhaust is rice, you specified your definition of rice - some (me) think heavy super JDM tow-hooks, parking polls, and ball massagers are rice - it's different from person to person based on their tastes. No use trying to "clear up what rice is."
@ OP:
A built LS (B18A) block will be nice for boost, don't bother with VTEC if you boost it. None is good for "high" boost in stock form. D series blocks hold together usually until about 200 while B/H/F series blocks usually hold to 300 without problems - obviously these are arguable numbers.
You see a lot of people claiming "go K series" - that's a 10 thousand dollar swap with custom ECU, swapped fuel system, etc. that makes only ~200whp - weigh whether it's worth it or not.
Boost is obviously your cheapest bet since you can A) make the most power with it, and B) It's cheapest way to make power on low displacement motors..
If you're looking for a strong naturally aspirated build I'd say look into F22 blocks with H22 heads - or H22 motors as a whole with an H2B adapter plate and a B series transmission which will make very strong naturally aspirated setups that'll lay down almost the power of a K20 for like...1/2-1/3 the price.
