new in the honda scene. im curently in the vw scene i have an 01 jetta 1.8t with upgraded turbo and a few other things..
not looking to leave the dub scene just looking to get an eg and swap a b series motor into it. give me some motivation pics would be cool...
i want to know which trany has the highest first gear.. my buddy has a mk3 vr gti and his first gear goes all the way up to 50mph no lie..
so if there's a trany out there with a tall first gear let me know..
what should i look for when getting an eg? for vw's i know to look for water pump being done same with chains and a common problem on mk4's are coil packs. what are some common problems with certain years..

Well first, welcome to HT. You are on the right path, hondas usually replace tbelt and water pump around 100k thats for all gens mainly. For the most part, im really not aware of common problems, most of the stuff is standard maintenance. I currently drive a 00 ex currently with 135k miles, and i bought it with 104k. The only thing work ive had to do in the last 2 yrs is valve seals, rear main was leaking, new battery, and had h20 pump and tbelt replaced at 105k for std maintenance. They are good solid cars if you take care of them.

Welcome aboard. I drive an EK as well, 99 Ex with 196K on it. Bought the car at the end of '02 with about 65k on it. Pretty much the same as above. Replaced timing belt and water pump (actually twice now), plugs and wires, also had a couple of small leaks starting so i've replaced the oil pan gasket, valve cover gasket, and the cam seal. Thats about it. Hondas are pretty much the most reliable cars on the planet if you take care of them. Good Luck!
