New EJ8 Project
Hey guys I'm new to the site, I just picked up a 1997 Civic Coupe Si, Cars in real good shape minus a few dents and scratches, only rust I found on the car was on the trunk from the spoiler and a few bubbles on the roof. Theres a d16y7 block with a Y8 head on it I do believe, with 140k, AEM Intake, DC Header, TYC Headlights and Taillights, runs pretty good so far.
So basically what I have planned for the car is:
- New paint ( Black Base/Clear )
- SIR tails
- OEM blacked out headlights
- Drop it an inch or two
- Wheels/Tires ( Need opinions thinking gold 15's, post pictures please )
- Interior mods
- Engine ( Have not decided )
I plan to be finished this by fall and I'm on a budget of say around 4-6k.
Now what I need help on deciding is what I should do for engine.. I most likely want something I can boost without spending a [freak] load, I've been looking at just B18B's, cheap swap and can get some good numbers out of them, B16's again not expensive, tough motor can handle boost on stock block .. A combination of both, but then I'm looking at more money for a good build .. and then the D series, buy a cheap Z6 Build and Boost it.. So my options are:
- B18B + Boost
- B16 + boost
- LS Vtec + Boost
- SOHC + Boost
If anyone has any suggestions for me feel free to let me know, pictures usually help, have all summer for this so not in too big of a hurry, heres a few pictures of it, disregard the rice tailights and the sticker if you see it (car came like that)..

No, but seriously, If its already a Y8 mini-me, and runs good, Just boost it, and have some cheap fun, don't bother swapping till it goes if you ask me. ASSUMING you are new with honda's, I'd stay away from LS/Vtec.
But please, check out the FAQ's before posting any other questions.

Re: New EJ8 Project Need Help (97CoupeSi)
would you be doing the swap yourself?
ive seen the entire swap done for a little under 3K
youd rape b16s and outrun GSRs till you get the money to boost, and then destroy STI,s and Evos

Nah I wouldn't be doing it, but I've already asked around and it would be around 4k where I'm from.. H22 would be deadly though, It's the labour that costs so much here

(if your cosidering a D go with the z6 but i think an ls would be perfect an maybe you can do a vtec head swap down the line )
I've decided to go with the LS then boost in the summer..still trying to pick out some wheels for it and what to do for interior .. also is there any known spot in these coupes known for leaking because the trunk has a pretty bad leak somewheres, trunk is soaked.

To put a B18B in my car is all Im going to need is
- B18B Engine + Tranny
- Driver side engine mount from a?
- Rear tranny mount from a SIR
- Shift linkage from a?
- Midshaft and axles from an 94+ Teg
- ECU from 94+ Teg
- Power steering pump from a 94+ Teg
I know I'm missing something..another mount maybe?
A link to this swap would be great.

Re: (97CoupeSi)
I thought you decided against an H22 because you didn't want to pay swap labor?
Just boost what you have while you get another block built. Then find somebody local that will help you put the new block in. And throw away your headlights and taillights.
