If it were me I would get it painted and get the interior fixed and looking nice and then worry about the engine.

I did to..but if I could go back and do it over again I would have got the body straight first. Goin to pick a girl up to go out when my hood was rusted, fenders mis-matched sucked and was embarrassing.

performance before ANYTHING. Atleast a general tune up/check-up...atleast if you plan on keeping that motor. If not....swap. fo sho!!

listen, build the engine first, cause you dont want to have a beautiful paint job or something like this and **** with your engine, then drop a 12mm socket wrench on your freshly painted fender do ya? lol, build the engine, then interior, then exterior. thats just me and how i look at it. plus if you have like jdm side markers and fog lights you have to deal with those wires and might snap one or something. it happens all the time. plus you dont want to work on your engine and accidentally put your greasy *** hand all over your car and interior do ya? lol didnt think so. trust me go that route.

my first project would be getting that thing fixed up and clean for a DD so it doesnt look like a beater. then i would move into some suspension, wheels and lips/exterior goodies etc. a car that handles well IMO is more fun then a fast car you cant use the power with. I would look into finding a motor and building it slowly as you complete the rest of your car.

yeah but when your car looks like a crossbred skittle appearance should be taken car of first unless this is strictly a time attack car like what he wants to do with it.

well what i mean by time attack is its gonna be built for it, but its gonna be daily driven as well, and that actually sounds pretty smart to get a motor and build it up before i drop it in, while i work on the cars appearance, that would make sense right?

thats never a bad idea. also if i were you while working on appearance i would do brakes, and suspension parts as well. keep in mind OP that you might want the interior to be comfortable since you're gonna be driving it a lot. in the mean while i would tune up the motor you have and fix the necessary stuff so that its reliable.

Just do a bit of everything at once.

Like take off the fenders and bumper and paint them, while you do some suspension parts or build an engine on the side, and every now and then do a couple things on the interior.

Thats what I do more or less, I can never make up my mind and I'm too a.d.d. to focus on one aspect of the car at a time :p

heres just my opinion, rattle can the fenders and bumper to match, go to the local junkyard and pull a door panel along with whatever other little pieces you need, paint your wheels to match, and there you go body and interior done for the time being, then focus on suspension, unless you like a shitty bouncy ride, then do motor.

update- well, yeah im planning on spraying my fenders and bumpers, but i was also thinking idk if some people agree or disagree with a glossy black hood/roof/trunk setup?

i know its personal preference but wanted to know if that would look rice or not

and right now i replaced the rims, to all 4 black ones till i buy some rota's off my friend for 300$, just waiting on paychecks to start actually doing work to her, right now im actually finishing paying her off so thats why funds have been low ://

have it run first, that way if you do have scratches from the install or anything, you can fix that later instead of having it look nice and have to be really careful with the exterior.

OP, also before you put a nice set of rims on it. Do the neccessary steps for theft prevention. Do a search and you will find threads about doing different things and doing it the right way. Once its looking nice and has a nice set of rims on it..it will stand out to thieves..I learned the hard way.
