New Distributor and TDC
Does anyone know why the helms manual says to set the engine at TDC when putting a new distributor on? B16 here and am replacing a stock distributor with a stock distributor.
Since the distributor can only go on one way it would seem to me that you wouldn't need it at TDC for any particular reason.... |

Re: New Distributor and TDC
well it tells you to put it at TDC cause it doesnt only go in 1 way it goes in 2ways and ill explain. lets say u have motor at TDC and your distributor is in and aligned right. now take it off and turn the fork that goes into the cam exactly 180 degrees it will still go in but instead the distributor will be off timing and wont start. it tells u to put it at TDC so that doesnt happen. dont believe me??? go find out for yourself what im talking about.

Re: New Distributor and TDC
Do you mean turn the fork 360 degrees or 180 degrees? The fork is not centered on the cam therefore it will only fit every 360 degrees.

Re: New Distributor and TDC
no i meant 180 but didnt realize it said b16 MY BAD. my h22 can go in at every 180 degrees. this was an honest mistake for not reading clearly my bad.

No prob, thanks for the correction. Just trying not to be surprised.
I thought it may have something to do with the TDC sensor in the distributor... |
Re: New Distributor and TDC
No prob. But the b16 does only go in one way so it wouldn't matter if you put it TDC or not
