Last week when it was bitter cold, I started my car to let it warm up, 15 mins later I go into reverse and give it some gas and i hear a little bang and then the car got loud and I could smell exhaust. I look under the car and this is what appeared. I had a check engine light on for 2 weeks and when I went to check it 2 weeks ago, it was "gas cap/fuel leak" so the mechanic reset it, it was fine for 2 days then it went back on. This is the second time the hole has happened, the first time it was on the opposite side of the cat.

What would be my alternatives? New cat, new exhaust pipes?
