new clutch now horrible wheel hop
i just bought a 97 hatch and the previous owner had a new clutch put into it, I am to the understanding that its a Exedy stage 2 clutch with an aftermarket flywheel. It has horrible wheel hop when leaving a dead stop. I looked everything over and the top rear L bracket bolt is missing and the bolt that holds the L bracket to the car was loose, tightened that up and it seemed to make a little difference. I'm just curious as to if that one bolt will make it hop that much. I had a similar problem with an xtd eBay clutch in my ls vtec. Thanks

is it still doing the same problem after u put that bolt ? and most def if u dont have the rear bolts well can cause the motor to rock backwards when u move the car make sure all motor bolts are tighten

Re: new clutch now horrible wheel hop
he said he "didn't know much about cars " so if there was anything wrong with it he didn't know about it, wow right? He said it was not a six puck. And it helped a little. There are three bolts that go from the L bracket into the the tranny, the bottom two are super tight and the one that is actually the mounting point where it bolts to the car is super tight as well. There is just the one on top. He said clutch has not even been in a month yet so maybe its not broken in? I'm going to get that bolt in tomorrow and hopefully it fixes it. If not I'm stumped!!

I think the clutch is f*cked up. People are stupid and seem to think its OK to let your car roll back on a hill, and then pull the car forward, let it roll back, pull it forward, etc. I see ppl doing it all the time, and its funny when ppl think theyre hot sh*t in there really nice car, and they do that non stop. It just puts alot of heat on your clutch which isnt good!
Anyways...To my point. When i bought my 97 civic, the car ran fine. Then it started to wheel hop, and it slowly got more and more worst within just a week of having the car. Pulled the tranny to replace throw outbearing and clutch, and my old clutch was all purple and you could deffinatly tell it had been through alot. I shook the clutch after pulling it, and you could hear the sh*t raddle on the clutch which was causing the car to wheel hop. One thing that sucks is...I replaced the clutch with a cheap *** clutch from schucks, put a few thousand miles on it, and the car is starting to wheel hop again. Slowly but surely. Ive got some time before the **** will break, but its something i need to replace. I just bought the clutch kit from shucks because I didnt have alot of money and i needed a throw out bearing so i figured id just replace the clutch since it was wheel hopping. Next time, ill invest in a good clutch. I just dont want to re-pull my tranny again. I hate doing it.

Re: new clutch now horrible wheel hop
Thank you, and i do not think it is the clutch, shifting threw gears and everything is fine, feels great.. I got on it yesterday and it chirps second gear hard and same with third and feels like it should. I'm just not understanding this wheel hop. There is a DIY thread on how to re poly your mounts to where they are stiffer than stock but no shaky and rattle everything like Avids and Hasports. I'm going to try this and see what happens.
