Default New cam, odd problem.

I had a d16z6 in my hatch and had a spare y8 head lying around so I got it cleaned up and put in new valve seals, cam seal, head gasket etc.. and also upgraded to a zex 105300 cam and valve springs and put it on the z6 block over the weekend.

The car started right up and runs fine and is a bit faster than it was, but vtec isn't engaging. This isn't inteded to be a "my V-techs not working.. halp!" post... i'm familiar with the reasons as to why it wouldn't engage. The odd thing is vtec worked just fine up to the day i swapped the new head on. So far its running the best with the cam gear (AEM) set at 2 degrees advanced.

Could the problem have anything to do with needing a good tune, or i f'd something up with the rocker arms?...the only thing that was changed since before the head swap was that i used the vtec solenoid from the y8 head, and maybe i should try the z6 solenoid?

Has anyone else had a problem after installing aftermarket cam(s)? any help is apreciated
