new battery = erratic idle

new battery = erratic idle
ok, i get off work and my car wouldn't start. i called my mom to pick me up and buy a new battery. i come back, put in the new battery, start up car, and drive home. on the way home, i notice when i'm at a complete stop or red light, my car starts revin on it's on! it bounces between 1k and 1.3k. back and forth.. back and forth. what is causing this?

make sure the terminal clamps are tight.......I've seen 2 hondas with this prob in the last 3 days lol both had loose positive cables........John

thanks for the tip. i'll check it out tomorrow.. it's dark now. oh btw, could it be it also resetted my ecu?

if thats what your thinkin, you need to reset your ECU and have your car idle for about 10 minutes. so the ECU can readjust

mine does that for awhile after the ecu gets reset, which is what happens if your battery dies.

yeah i tightened the battery to the best of my ability. i guess the ecu is just trying to re learn the idle point. i hope it'll get better within the next few days.

If your car is OBD-2, you will need to run the idle learn routine.
Step 1: With the car totally cold, start it, then hold it at 3000 rpm until full operating temp (radiator fan will cycle).
Step 2: Let the car idle with all of the accessories off for at least five minutes. If the radiator fan comes on, add it's run time to the minimum 5 minute idle time.
Basically let it idle for 10 minutes with the accessories off and you should be set.
