NEVER again. Window Tint!
Okay so never again... I never want to touch, look at, or take off window tint again lol. My fingers are numb and my wrists are sore.
I had purple tint on my hatch, but it took me 2 and half hours just to do the hatch glass today.
The side windows are tomorrow!
Do any of you have suggestions for them to be easier?
Thanks

$60? wow, CA must rape you guys on tint.
I had all my tint removed from 5 windows, and 15% Llumar (best tint there is) installed for $120. Lifetime warranty, also.
But if you don't want to do it yourself anymore, and it's that much of a pain, find a local, reputable shop to do it for you.

Rip it off.. Then spray glass cleaner on the adhesive.. Then take it off with a razor blade.. It comes off very easy.. turns into goo... just makes a mess

wow... i never thought about using the goo gone...
i had a buddy that worked at an audio and tint place. they had this acid/water mix that was great. the only thing is though is i had to use 3 air fresheners at once for a week or two. and drive with the windows down. b4 i got my car tinted.

My gosh I thought I was the only one who pisses money onto their car
Razor blade and glass cleaner works awesome after you get the tint off.

I pulled tint off a 4 door teg in less than an hr .. with a CAN of glass cleaner and a razor. Make sure you have a lot of blades and change them regularly. I went through about 10-12

Re: NEVER again. Window Tint! (z6htch)
The DIY for removing tint would be great for you if you lived in a place where you still had really hot and sunny days. If you don't try this method.
I think what might make it a bit easier is making a solution of 50% ammonia, 50% water, then a squirt or two of shampoo.
Protect surrounding areas very well as the ammonia may cause some damage to vinyl and what not.
Spray window with ammonia, water, soap solution, and immediatley cover with a sheet of plastic (garbage bag will work). Let it sit for a while. 30 mins should be fine. In theory the ammonia will absorb into the tint and break down the adhesive and make it easier to pull off.
After you pull off the tint, spray remaining glue on the window with a foaming window cleaner. Let it sit for a minute, then scrape off with a razor blade. If you don't have a razor blade just use a scrubbing sponge that you would use for scrubbing baked on lasagne from your dishes (you know the yellow and green sponges).
If you don't have a foaming window cleaner, the regular kind of window cleaner will also do the job, just might take a little bit longer.
A little tip with the garbage bag, Trim it to size of the window. Spray the window with plain water, put the garbage bag up and then trim it down.
Something you could do to aid in this process to use a heat gun and heat up the window (from the outside) while the ammonia solution and garbage bag are on the window.
I have had success with this method.

Thanks guys lol. I'm going to try the ammonia and garbage bag technique soon let you know how it goes sometime tonight.
I'm in a VERY slow build with no job. I was gonna make a thread for it but i know people will flame for the slow progress.
I managed to pick up a greddy evo exhaust though lol.
If you think i should start a build thread in the appearence build section let me know

x2. it takes twice as long for just the rear hatch glass than what it does for the side windows and quarter windows.

Re: (IP RACING)
mMm purple tint..those suck! but at the tint shop i work at i use baby soap&water mixture with a few razor blades for the windows that dont have defroster lines. the windows with defroster lines i use a steamer but if you dont have a steamer and its a nice hot sunny day out. get a big black garbage bag, cut it out to the size of the window, spray some of the baby soap n water on the inside(where the tint is) and place the bag on the film and sit it outside in the sun for a while, then if it sat thee long enough and you go and peel the film off there shouldnt b much glue. and if there is glue left over grab a sos pad(the one w/out the soap in em is better cause the ones with soap in em can stain interior) and some 409, spray the 409 on it, let it soak then spray it again and start scrubbing.
hope it wasnt too confusing...GL

if you have a steamer you can use that. The tint just needs lots and lots of moisture. If your careful you can use a steam iron....kinda ghetto. Point is you need a lot of heated moisture
