whats up all, i got a 96 Civic DX with a 00 GSR swap, and a obd1 chipped ECU i never had any problems till today, i was drivin around and hitting vtec like a champ, i took out the gauge cluster to switch the guage facing, and then the speedometer needle doesnt work and now my vtec doesnt engage, and a check engine light poped up, and i think for VSS, if i shut the car off and start it back check engine stayes off and i hit vtec then after a bout 5 minutes of driving, it happens again.. would should i do...

u think for VSS or u know it's for VSS?

If it is the VSS, I"m pretty sur ethat can disable your vtec because it relies on it to tell the ECU ur going 10+mph, and obviously it'll effect ur speedometer....

Swap it with another VSS temporarily, then reset the ECU, see if nethign happens

SOLUTION:
YOU'R VSS IS PROBABLY BAD

Look, just temporarily swap it out of a friends car & reset the ECU to see if it shuts off

I doubt it's a cluster problem, b/c what would cause both the speedo and the CEL to come on, and the CEL isnt' jammed if it's throwing a code 5

If you're not sure about the CEL get it checked at autozone w/ their computer for FREE

LOL now you see why im an ******* sometimes man.. ive been doin this day in and day out for over 3 years.

Go get a New VSS it is located on the transmission.. if you look at the throttle body look straight down and you will see it sititng there it is a 3 wire sensor.

i unbderstand what ur sayin u dont have be a scum bag about it dick face, but if the VSS was broken, then why would it work, then after 5 minutes throw a CEL...

same reason people can start there car one minute and then not the other minute.. ITS FAILING

Main Relays do it all the time sometimes they work then sometimes they wont. Sensors do give warning signs of failure.
