Default Need Some SERIOUS Help with my list of problems

Alright ive posted about this before and now im having even more trouble with it. I have a 97 Civic EX with a 94 Del Sol Si motor in it. Its using the stock P28 with a OBD2A to OBD1 Jumper Harness. I used the stock 97 EX wiring Harness BTW.

Alright heres the list of problems:

1.) The cooling fan wont turn on. The cooling fan will work if you put direct power to it but its not turning on manually. The relay is good and the fuse is good for it also.

Edit : Thermoswitch maybe the probem, works when you jump the thermoswitch

2.) The car overheats with the cooling fan turned on manually. The upper radiator hose is hot and the lower is outside temp. I have searched on this and some say it should be that way so?

Edit : Thermostat is stuck

3.) There is 2 connectors on the harness which I have no idea where they go.
Its a 8 pin connector and a 6 pin connector all right by the intake. Theres updated pics of the connectors on my last post.

Edit : They are the auto transmission plugs

4.) Its throwing a code for a IAT. The IAT plug has 5V coming out of it. So I dont know why it would be throwing that.

5.) Its throwing a code for a ELD (Electronic Load Detector).

Edit : Fixed blown ALT fuse and it

6.) Its throwing an 02 Sensor code.

Edit : Code Fixed

7.) The right low beam will not work. I have switched the bulbs and checked the fuses and still doesnt work.

8.) Its not throwing a code for it, but the speedo doesnt work. I took it out and tightened it back down and cleaned the plug.

Edit : Fixed blown ALT fuse and it

I have swapped ECU's and put in a USDM B16A OBD1 ECU and still no good. I drove the car onto the lift when the motor was pulled about 2 weeks ago. It had zero problems and no check engine light.

Someones gotta have some answers for me here. Thanks Guys.

did you try resetting ecu first?? try taking out the obd1 ecu and jumper harness and plug in your stock ecu. see if that still throws the codes

I dont have a stock ECU for it. Yes ive tried resetting my ECU. Im just using a stock P28 right now.

No one knows what those 2 plugs are for. The 6 pin plug comes off right where the IAT wires come off, and the other one T's a little after the ECT Plug that connects to the upper radiator hose.

as far as your fan is concerned, it's likely that your fan switch is bad. my fan was not coming on and all fuses, relays, and connections were fine. so i just hardwired the switch and now it comes on whenever the key is at full accessory.

Well im kind of lost now. Another HT member looked at his friends 96 Civic EX and it does NOT have the plugs I have. The guy I got the car from bought the wiring harness off of ebay. Then I went and looked at a 2000 Civic DX and it does not have those plugs either.

Is there anyone that can help me identify it. I just went ahead and pulled the harness off.

Get yourself a new harness because that **** doesnt belong in there. Your fan may not be coming on because you may not have it plugged into the fan switch. Jump the wires that are plugged into it and the fan should run,if it doesnt you've got issues.. With all the issues your having cut your losses and have a good harness built. My .02 cents

The fan works just fine if you plug it into a direct power source such as the battery. The fan switch is plugged in. Hows getting a "new" harness going to change any of my problems though. I need to figure out what those 6 pin and 8 pin connector plugs are for.

your lower hose is cold and the upper is hot, sounds like a stuck thermostat. As far as the fan switch, just get a new one, 35 bucks from auto parts store, and i suggest running a colder thermostat, honda oem is set at about 180 degrees, i always go with 160..

Most of the problems u are having is wiring issues, search for wiring diagrams for the swap and rewire that son of a b*tc*.

Test the coolant temp swtich. It is on the thhermostat housing. Jump the connector with the key on and see if the fan turns on. Make sure everything is plugged in. If the fan does not turn on, it is a wiring problem. IF it does, your thermostat is bad.

It is a thermostat or radiator problem. This is the reason why the cooling fan may not be turning on.

All these codes have something to do with wiring I bet. Because to use a OBD1 Alt, you need to rewire the connector. OBD1 IAT is on the intake tube and the OBD1 IAT is on the IM.

Get the pics posted up!

Theres the pics of the harness connectors that I dont know where they go. I feel they may have something to do with the engine not running right.

Yes I know you have to rewire the ALT plug. This is what i did for that. I cut the wires off of both and took the an OBD1 Alt Plug and just matched the wires(not by color but by position) and soldered them back.

Thanks TurboGixxer! The plugs Im wondering where they went are for an AUTO Tranny? Mine is 5 speed BTW.

So I have wired the IAT and and it plugs into the IAT plug into the manifold and has App. 5 Volts at the plug. Its still throwing a code for that.

The O2 sensor was fine when the car was rolled in and its throwing a code for that.

The ELD code is still throwing and it wont charge the battery.

I didnt mess with the O2 Sensor Wiring, the IAT plug is good and the ELD I didnt mess with that except for I rewired the alt plug.

Can anyone tell me the wires from an OBD2A ALT are supposed to match up on the OBD1 ALT Plug? Like Red yellow goes to green with black, ect.

Alright tonight I thought I fixed the harness so I put it on. Last time I didnt have the EGR plugged in.This time everything except the oil pressure sensor is plugged in.

There is still a check engine light for a ELD code 20, then a check engine light for IAT code 10. Its still not throwing a code for this but the speedo doesnt work. Also when I turn the car to the on position the Charge light and the Oil Light do not come on. Isnt there a fuse on the 97s for the ELD and the VSS? Why wont the Oil and Charge lights appear on. They never turn on no matter if its running or not. I dont have the inside fusebox cover so I cant see what fuses they are and if it has them. Then the radiator fan didnt kick on because the thermostat wasent opening and the car was overheating. So I took the thermostat out temp. just to see what would happen. Still no Rad. fan kicks on. The relay and fuse are still good.

Im so frustrated with this car. Someone help me im begging for it.

ELD and IAT do not have a fuse outside of the ECU fuse. The cooling fan has a fuse, just check all the fuses.

Jump the connector to the thermoswitch (on the thermostat) with the key on. If the fan turns on, it is the thermoswitch. If not, the wiring maybe to blame.

The oil and charge light should come on with you put the key on, it should have a blub check. With your cluster not doing that and speedo not work (with no CEL) you cluster maybe to blame.

I PM you a link to helms.

Well it throws a codes up with the check engine light but has doesnt throw a code for the speedo. The guy that used to have the car had a 1st Gen B16A in it and it ran like crap. The battery, speedo, oil light worked and so did the charging system.

Ill check out the thermoswitch

Well I have a factory service manual for when I had my 95 Teg and I was looking through there for info. On a teg there is a fuse for the ELD im almost 100% sure.
