Default Need some help with a weird noise.

UPDATE!!! VIDEO!!! http://video.google.com/videop...hl=en
make sure you watch the entire thing!

Ok H-T. I dont come too often to ask for help, but Im stumped. First off this is what Ive got: 99 DX Hatch. Lowered on Skunk2 full coilovers. Si rear disc conversion with stock brake pads. Front has EBC greenstuff pads, and power slot rotors. (there are no screws holding these in, that should not mad a difference since they are hub centric, right?) Ive only owned this car for a 8 days.

Problem: when I hit 50 mph I get a "knocking" noise. It almost sounds like a spun bearing, but obviously its not. It goes away around 70ish. I dont feel it in the wheel, shifter, pedals, or anywhere else in the car. It seems to be coming from the front left.

What I have done/checked:
1. with wheels on, i check verticle movement to check wheel bearings
2. with wheels on, i check horizontal movement to check tie rod ends
3. Firmly grabbed both axles to check for apparent breaks or looseness
4. I have removed the inner fender liner thinking that may have been the culprit

I have no where else to go!

PLEASE HELP ME!

What about a bad motor mount? My guess would be a bad cv joint.

I am not sure it is the cv joint just for the simple fact that you say you have no vibration through the steering wheel or the pedals that would eliminate the drive line and the brakes as far as warped rotor etc. What about a loose belt. I have seen many post about belts slapping when loose. You might want to remove all the accessory belts and take the car for a spin. You will have a check engine because of no alternator output but the car should run fine for a short period until the battery starts going dead. Just a thought

ill check that, but wouldnt that be related to engine speed and not vehicle speed? there are AEM pulleys on the p/s pump and alternator.

that's strange. Even though it sounds like it comes from the front have you checked the rear wheel bearings and suspension?

im guessing its the axle. i cant think of anything else it could be. try figuring out what the car doesn under hard acceleration. that may give you a clue as to what the culprit is. you might also try slight turns and hard braking between 50-70mph. if you find the right movement in the car between those trouble speeds, you are bound to come across something that eliminates the sound and vibration.

edit** i just watched the video and it definatly seems like the axle because it seems to stop under deceleration.

its still there when i brake fast it just goes away when i get lower than 50 mph

okay.... i fixed it.

i swapped driver side axle... not the issue.
i re adjusted my hood latch thinking it was the culprit.... not it
i remounted my grill..... not it.

ready for this?
i got under the car to find that the previous owner his some ****. when i got the car it was slammed to the ground. im gonna take some pics of the damage on thursday. i pulled all of the splash shield out. ONLY because i found it bungee corded into place and scabbed together with 2 pieces of small metal and pop rivets..... oil pan was smashed in something on the inside of the lower control arms was broken off. im thinking it was some sory for h brace or something. thats what the ends look like. who knows? anyway. i took it down the road after spending 63 bucks on an axle, GRINDING the axle nut off of the old one since i broke a 24" snap on breaker bar. 120psi on a MAC impact gun didnt work, and i also tried what always works. a 48" pipe wrench on a 32mm socket.... still didnt work. and three and a alf hours. all it was was a simple piece of plastic.

oh well, all better now!
