need some help troubleshooting this issue - bad axle teeth
so i just recently bought an boosted 97 ej6 civic lx from a guy and it needed a new axle from hitting a pothole. i replaced the axle and i noticed on the bad axle it looked like the teeth were ground down on the end of the spline that goes into the trans and we weren't sure why. after the new axle was installed i moved the car front and back in my driveway and everything was fine. my dad and i went to take it for a test drive, pulled out of the driveway and started down the road. once he shifted into second and hit 5-6k rpm the drive wheel spun and he said it felt like something broke. so then we coasted down the hill and pulled into a parking lot and he tried to get it to move but it wouldn't so we think the axle broke. I'm not really sure what went wrong so any help is appreciated.

Re: need some help troubleshooting this issue
i used a remanufactured axle from pep boys and the car supposedly gets close to 500whp so maybe when it got into those high rpm's the pep boys axle couldn't handle it

For 500 whp even the Drive Shaft Shop 2.9's aren't rated for, I think they are for up to 475 whp.

Re: need some help troubleshooting this issue
yeah idk the guy i got the car from said the oem axles would be fine cause he used oem axles in the car for the 3 years he had it but then again this guys been dickin me around with this car quite a bit so idk how much i can trust him. I'm still waiting for him to get a duplicate title so i can transfer it and get this over with. I'm just wondering if theres something else wrong with this car and maybe i should just try to get my money back. i got it for a deal so it just seemed to good to be true.

i just got the car towed back to my house and i tried to see if it would move and the speedo works but the car don't move so i did some research and i guess that means its the axle so I'm gonna try to pull it off today and check it out

If it ground it to nothingness, that is a lot of metal to be in the transmission, also who is to say the kind of damage done to the differential gear the axle slides into.
