Default need some help

got in my car to leave work this morning it ran fine last night and every day before now. anyway i pulled up to a stoplight and my speedo freaked out and started bouncing between 0-20 and then from 40-60- then from 40-100. and then just random bouncing the rest of the way home.
the check engine light came on at the exact moment the speedo freaked out, i took it to autozone and he pulled the codes. the code was p1298 electric load detector circuit high input probable cause.
open or short circuit condition.
failed ecm

i dont really get what the problem is? is the speedo and the light connected cuz it happened at literally the exact same time.
you guys got any ideas?
i checked the number 15 fuse with a circuit tester since these are all common problems of the number 15 blowing and the fuse is fine. thanks in advance

Make sure to test the amperage on the alternator and not just the voltage. When mine was bad the voltage was still perfect but it was putting out about 1.5 amperes instead of the specified 50.

I don't really know what shows with a bad regulator though.
