Default Need some exhaust advice...

Ok just to let everybody know, i drive a 99 civic ex 5 speed. I am in highschool still and i am taking an automotive course that has some very valuable equipment and parts at my disposal. What i was wondering was, if it would be a smart idea ti try and make my own exhaust. I have a pipe bender available to me, all i have to do is buy the piping and a tip for it. I currently run I/H on my y8. If i went with 2.5" piping without resonator, would it sound pretty raspy and ricey? I plan on buy an HKS tip for it but i dont want it to sound too horrible. Also a friend of mine said that with little to no backpressure i might burn my valves up and seriously waste gas. Is this a possible consequence. Right now, my exhaust is unbolted at the axel-back portion of the stock exhaust.
Can anybody shed some advice on what would be a good setup or any experiences with making exhausts?

ok well ill try and find out what kind it is. Also our teacher took a honda training course at some college and they gave him 10 sohc heads most of them regular d15 heads but a couple were off a d16z6 one of which i got. It works perfectly with really low miles on it but i wanted to know how much it would cost to get it tanked and port and polished. It would be nice to slap it on my y8 and have a lil more power but i dont think that will happen. Would anybody here be interested in purchasing it off me. I dont think ill be using it unless i blow my motor. It has everything except for a valve cover and the vtec solenoid and dizzy and camgear. Somebody shed some light on the possiblities with this head and my exhaust question.

bump please anybody have some quotes to share on a port and polish. Maybe some from your own experiences. Also i will be running a cat on the exhaust. I looked at the pipe bender today and it has two rollers and a piston that has different radius tips that push down in between the two rollers. What the hell is this pipe bender? Mandrel or what?

this is exactly what the pipe bender looks like.

But this one says only up to a 2" pipe? What the hell? Im not sure about the one at the school but thats kinda small for an exhaust. What is the diameter of the stock exhaust piping?

Thats a crush bender.

And the available diameter for each bender, is with the different "heads" that you see pictured around the bending machine.

I have an ebay muffler with stock piping except that the resonator was removed. Mine isn't raspy but I guess every car is different.

I suggest that you go ahead and make the exhaust and weld on your old or get a new resonator and cat, because if your putting an HKS muffler its gonna be loud and cops love giving kids tickets for excessive exhaust noise, but at least they cant bust you for not having the cat and resonator...catch my drift?...plus you'll pass smog, if you did it the other way you wouldn't be able too.

get the hks muffler and weld it on using your stock flange. my bro had a hks super dragger muffler on his gsr and it sounded great with the stock piping. close to a 350z exhaust
