Default need some advice

I am looking for a 92 to 94 civic hatchback. I am not really new to imports, but have been away for a while. I am getting rid of the Mustang(2000 gt). I got another kid on the way and have to buy a bigger car(wife wants suv). Since I can't afford two car notes, mustang has to go. So I need a car I can buy outright. I have about 3,000 to play with. I like the hatchback. I rode in my cousins Crx with a b16 in it. Pretty damn quick. Not much torque down low, but at highway speeds it felt just a fast as my mustang. Anyway what should I look for, and what should I stay away from. I will be dropping in a b16 or b18 and adding boost within a year. I don't need a blazing fast car. I'll be happy with mid to low 14's. I will have to drive this car to work as well. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I checked out the "import" boards and this is by far the most technical board. Thanks in advance

welcome to the board. i do have a question for you: why are you considering a 5th gen hatch when you want a bigger car than the mustang? not trying to flame, just being a voice of reason...

Probably because the stangs rear seating area is tiny. A hatch probably has more room, plus he said he can`t afford the stang payments now.

Any 92-95 Civic is a good choice. SI is the heaviest if that matters. You need to figure out wether you want power, ac, etc.

the bigger car is going to be for the wife and kids, I need a car for myself. The new suv will be my only car payment. The hatch I will buy outright
Sorry I didn't explain. We are a one car family now. My wife totaled the other car.

The wife will have her Expedition and I will have my car.
I found someone to do the engine swap, I have seen some of his work.
