vtec solenoid leak fix experience share
Hi to all
I have a 1999 EX Honda civic, for a few months I had an oil leak problem from under my vtec solenoid, that i tried to fix wihout any sucess untill last week.
When I discovered the leak I went to Honda parts shop and got a "vtec solenoid gasket" and replaced it, but the leak didn't stopped.
So I went to a Honda civic mechanic and he felled on the gasket with Silicon to stop the leak, without any success. After a few mechanics I finally took the job in to my own hands and decided to do some resource.
I took off my vtec solenoid and it looked like the attachment in this post - felled with oil ant the gasket was ruin because of the pressure and the wrog assemble.
I took off the gasket and cleaned the part entirely with fuel, after that I took a glass paper and glued it to a flat wood surface, I took the vtec part to my hand and started to polish the inside part over the glass paper, after a few rounds I looked at the part and I saw the polished parts and the none polished parts of the surface side, so I realized that the part is defected because of the heat of the engine.
I continued to polish until all the part is became single depth. Then I placed the new gasket and assembled the part back with a new set of screws... the leak is stopped immediately thank god.
I hope my experience will help most of you.

i would never use gasket sealer on that gasket it could begin to clog that screen. glad you got it fixed....could have just ran it under a belt sander to get it flat.
