Default Need opinions and advice 94 civic coupe bolt ons

Hi all,

Just discovered this site through a friend. I recently got a beater car from my sister just as another daily driver. A 94 civic ex coupe to be exact..auto tranny unfortunately. Anyways, I basically just want to make this thing a little more fun to drive without doing a swap of any kind. I just want to invest about 2000 on it and be done with it. Most of the stuff I've thought of are bolt ons so far. Can you guys just let me know what you think of the choices I made? And if you would do it differently, what parts would you recommend for best bang for the buck

1. Tokico struts with springs (any suggestions?) looking for 1.5" drop..not too low
2) front and rear cusco strut bar
3) greddy sp2 exhaust
4) dc sports ceramic headers

5) 17" rims...havent decided which ones...prefer to stay under 1K

------------------
please throw some names out ..i've been totally out of the honda scene since i got my Z..but i just want to have a decent car to drive..and not all stock.

oh, one other question...how much can i expect to gain fro mthe greddy bolt-on turbo available for this car? and how much is typical labor charge for that kit? Thanks for any info you guys can give me!

MIke

invest into a z6 or y8 5spd tranny, and don't get 17 inch rims because they don't belong on the civic barely fit

that's you best bang for the money, 5spd car would kill you auto car even with all these bolt ons.

Get the Tokico Illumina's with springs for $470 from ebay. 17s won't make your car fun to drive. Get some light 15s. Try http://edgeracing.com for cheap. Those 2 items in themselves will make it a little more fun to drive.

turbo is your best bet for a bolt on, and if you do get a turbo dont pay a shop to do it, ask me and i will put it on for next to nothing, just did my car about a month ago

yeah ur best bang for the bucks is go with a homemade turbo setup, it can easily be done with under 1k. http://Homemadeturbo.com gives a lot of info on homemade turbo setups. And get a 5spd tranny should only be about 200 if you find someone local, make sure its a z6 or y8 tranny like ABK said. For rims you can easily find someone with 15s or 16s for about 500-600 bucks, dont get 17s they are worthless.

j00 don't know? It's all about rotational mass. Do you realize how much harder your engine has to work to get those wheels spinning? The rubber for 17s is too expensive anyway. That should be reason enough to not get them. Hell, even 16" rubber isn't worth it.

If you want to hook up with girls who "dig 17s", I feel sorry for you. You should be doing this for yourself, not to impress girls. Because, for the most part, girls who are interested in men with cars, are mainly interested in men with Mercedes-Benz and BMW vehicles.

Oh ok. Usually, we place the face after we make a joke or are sarcastic. It did sound like you were serious there for a minute. My bad. No hard feelings.

Definitely get a D16Z6 or D16Y8 Manual Transmission. Get a nice suspension setup. Definitely get 15s or 16s MAX. I rather have 15s IMO.

Thanks DewMota,

yea, I will drop you a line some time today after work if you're on. Well, I basically threw everything out there just to see what everyone's opinions are.

I guess I have to make a sacrifice/choice for looks over performance or vice versa.

So my next question is, how much work is it to conver the auto tranny to manual? The parts I imagine is cheap..but how labor intensive is it? Keep the posts coming, its really useful, thanks!

Since it is auto and it is just a beater car, just get I/H/E and lower it throw what ever rims YOU want to put on it and call it a day. That way you will have some pick up and it will look decent.
