Need new axles
Hey guys, So unfortunately its time for new axles in my coupe and i am trying to make the most educated decision. I have a gsr motor, boosted putting out just over 300 to the wheels. I don't really track often but every so often i like to. I am trying to save money for more important things, but i dont want something thats going to break. Whats your recommendation on brands?

Re: Need new axles (EJ8 GSR-T)
Well you can purchase stage 3 axles or just get lifetime warranty axles from your automotive parts store like Schucks or Kragens, etc..

And as for the gators, what does a decent pair run? Nothing insane but a little more beef than stock.

upgraded axles are expensive...im in the same boat as you and ive just kept using autozone replacements,i mean there free and it only takes like 15min to change em out...but it would be nice to go to the track without having to worry about snapping one then having to tow your car home

Stage 3 as in Drive Shift Shop. http://ndwebtest.com/driveshaf...t.php
Summit Racing also sells replacements with all new parts in the back of there catalog from $65.95 try searching there web site with keyword MEV.
It sounds like your trying to save money on axles. IMO they are not one area you want to go cheap on. It's one of them, pay me now or pay me later, things.

x2 on the AutoZone axles... cant beat lifetime warranty. Although it does suck when the shitty things snap and you have to be towed home.

Cool, i think ill have to take that route. I would love to put some nice ones in but im heading back to college and there are more important things to consider. I guess ill just have to take care of them.

Re: Need new axles (EJ8 GSR-T)
Lets see the last time I tried to get a good right axle for a 91 DA it took 4 axles before I got one that didn't make noise and vibrate. But hey my cost is less then $40.00. and takes me about 20 minutes to R&R one. The second axle lasted about 25 miles, the third one lasted a few days before it snapped one saturday night up the street, I hooked up the open trailer and went and picked the car up. Get the idea ? Tell the guy at the auto parts store you want the better axles, there about $125. each.
I would check out Summit Racing next time.

Re: Need new axles (1992Si)
Wow, well im looking for something that will last. I wont be beating up on the car so i dont need anything crazy but at the same time i dont want something that will snap driving down the road. Any good brand recommendations for OE type replacements?

Re: Need new axles (hotrod99)
its also going to matter if you got really good tires cuz the more they grip the easier it is to snap them..my autozones have been on my car for awhile but i have shitty tires and it just spins its *** off

Yeah, i think ill give them a call tomorrow. How long does it take to swap them out? For someone who has never done it before.

IMO that's quick for a noobie. I'm thinking more like 1-2 hours if he's lucky.
I have no idea what he has for tools or if he knows the little tricks that make it easier. Break torque on axle nut before you jack up the car. 32mm socket, 134ftlbs
Like how to separate the lower ball joint or if he can jack the car up high enough so no oil comes out, does he know how to seat the new axle so it won't pop out?

Re: (hotrod99)
My first one took a long time. The second one a bit shorter. It wasn't until we got serious about the race car and invested lots of $$$$ in tools that things became easier.
3/4" Craftsman impact gun is my best friend.
On a positive note it is one of the basic things a Honda guy needs to know. OP if your going to keep this car and play with Honda's for the next few years, it's one of the things you need to know.
Do a search here or on http://www.d-series.org or http://www.turbod16.com there's lots of info out there.
