Need a muffler for a 97 cx hatch
trying to get a new muffler for my hatch, is this something i just unbolt and rebolt on the new one? i've been looking at like universal ones off of ebay that are just the muffler like this, except i don't want a 4" one
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/92-95...Q5fAccessories
it looks like all of them have 2.5" inlet, i can't find a definite answer on the stock piping for the CX tho?? is there more to this or is it just unbolt then bolt-on ebay muffler

I would stay away from that fart can on that ebay link you posted. It will most likely be loud as hell and sound like complete ***. Unless you like that sorta thing you will be disgusted every time you fire your engine up.
I would get either a factory muffler, although from Honda there pretty expensive IIRC, you can also go to a muffler shop and they will have a factory look-a-like muffler they can put on and get setup for you. You could also go with a Vibrant Flat Black. I love mine. At first I didn't to much, it was louder than expected but it actually wasn't, it was my stiff engine mounts making everything in the cab louder, I now am running stock mounts and the muffler is making me happy. Looks super nice as well. Picture at link below.
I should have asked earlier, but what are you trying to get out of a muffler, you just need a stock replacement because yours is rusted through, etc?

that ebay one you posted is a cut and weld on. if you want to bolt something on your looking for an axle back. stock piping is 1 7/8 outside diameter (OD)

Get a $25 thrush turbo muffler from Advance auto, get the biggest one they have, should be 2.5"
go to muffler shop, have them weld that on for you. It cost me $40 for an entire exhaust welded on so it should be cheaper.
mine was nice and stock sounding, until you got on it then it's deep not raspy at all

Re: Need a muffler for a 97 cx hatch
Last time I had to replace the muffler I got one at autozone. It sucks. Loud as hell. It sounds like there is an exhaust leak.....but there isn't. WTF is that? The problem is that it has a life time warranty. So I can get a free replacement when it dies or I can spend $$ and get a nice quiet factory one that doesn't have any warranty at all. Damn catch-22.
The reason I had to replace the muffler was that the mid pipe broke off at the flange to the cat (which happened again about 18 months later I might add). The previous muffler job had been a universal. They cut the damn flange off the rear end of the mid pipe to weld the generic muffler on so not only could I not simply replace the mid pipe, I also had to cut the muffler off to get the damn thing out! Then I also had to replace the muffler! WTF!! Don't get a universal muffler. You will need to ruin you mid pipe to put it on.
