Need a motor swap to beat mustangs and mercedes driven by rich A-holes
Hey guys I'm new to the forum and new to the civic world...I was passed down a 98 civic lx with about 130k...it's runs great but it's a stock motor and starting to show its age...this car is going to be an everyday commuter putting about 100 miles a day on the hwy...I want to look into a motor that'll be able to make this commute plus be able to back up my bark as well (for example if some rich a-hole wants to try me in his mustang or his mercedes). The speed limit it 70 I go about 80 everyday so I want to go with something that'll still give me power and pickup at those speeds if possible. ..I'm also looking to see if anyone can point me in the right direction as far as where or who I can buy a motor from. Sorry it's alot just tryna see where I stand any advice will help thanks guys

I bought a 98 lx with 162k on it still. Great commuter. Don't see y your 130k lx can't be as good.
Stay off the street with stupid need for speed stuff. Time to grow out of that.
Get your speed need at a track where its safe.

Just do some routine maintenance and call it a day.
Without a swap/turbo and a ton of $$ your car will not be faster than more expensive ones.

B-series with vtec is the easiest and most affordable way to meet your goals. I'd recommend b18c (c, c1, or c5). I have a 96 ex with a poor man's r (b18c1 bottom with high com pistons, b16a2 head) and I've had a lot of fun running with expensive cars.

What goals? He didn't even list any goals and if trying to spank a stang or a mercedes is called a goal than god damn you'll need to be more realistic than that ****.

Showing age at 130k? Yeah, it needs regular maintenance. Mine has 205k on the clock and she'll squeal tire in 2nd gear still. Don't think about spanking mustangs and 'cedes in this car, or (any other civic for that matter) unless you're prepared to spend 15k or better.

I second that. My 98 has 210 on the clock, and i still chirp second. The motor at 135k cannot be showing its age unless improperly maintained. However, onto the question. I did a head swap to a d16z6 with a y8 IM before i went back to stock, and yeah there is a power increase. It wasn't enough to write home about though. However if you are interested. I used a p28 chipped ECU obd2a to obd1 harness, d16y8 injectors and IM, d16z6 cylinder head with a d16y8 cam ( to keep timing simple), d16y7 dizzy ( which needs to be cut). aaannnnnddddd it cost around $600, which was worth it to me just in terms of experience and being comfortable working on my car. However, a d16y7 will not be able to push 200 without a turbo, or an extremely built high comp setup. Unless you plan on keeping the car forever, have a few grand to spend, and won't run into the **** smog laws that i have to deal with (california) then i would recommend swapping to a b series.
